Eco-friendly, Extra Care Scheme Opens Community organisations have come together in Nottingham to launch an eco-friendly extra care complex for the over 55s.

The social rent apartments at Albany House, on St Matthias Road, were officially opened by Councillor Jon Collins in January. Residents watched as Councillor Collins unveiled the plaque, located in their communal living area. He later joined them for a cup of tea and a chat. The extra care complex caters for residents over the age of 55 and includes 71 one-bedroom apartments, as well as communal facilities including a restaurant, lounge, hairdressers and activity room. The scheme is being run by Leicester-based social housing group LHA-ASRA, after the land was provided by Nottingham City Council on a 125-year lease. The Homes and Communities Agency and the Department of Health also provided funding for the project. The new development encompasses several green initiatives, such as whole house heat recovery systems, rainwater harvesting, a biodiverse green roof and the building is also Cllr Jon Collins and LHA-ASRA connected to the district heating system. group chief exec Matt Cooney

The scheme provides homes and independent living for older people in Nottingham and adds value to other local new housing that the HCA is supporting along with other partners.” Also as part of the complex, LHA-ASRA built a 60-place day service centre called the Albany House Day Service, which replaced a former City Council facility at Nuffield

Cllr Jon Collins with 79 year old resident Margaret Parkin and LHA-ASRA chief executive Matt Cooney House which no longer met modern standards. Users of the day service and extra care housing complex share some of the state-of-the-art on-site facilities. Albany House has replaced an unpopular block of 34 apartments for the elderly. The residents who wanted to return to the new scheme have done so. Nottingham-based Allan Joyce Architects designed the properties and the Kier Group carried out the construction.
