MEET THE BRONCOS Brian Owen

Redshirt Senior - Weight Class: 133 Spokane, Wash. - University High School 2012 NCAA National Qualifier – 133 Pounds 2009 NCAA National Qualifier – 125 Pounds 2012 Pac-12 Champion – 133 Pounds Redshirt Junior (2011-12) – Owen qualified for the his second NCAA tournament after winning the Pac-12 Tournament at 133 pounds…went 1-2 at the national tournament, sandwiching a win in between two losses…finished with a 9-3 overall record and a 1-1 dual record…two major decisions and two falls..sidelined most of the season due to injury but came into the Bronco lineup during the month of February…won the California Collegiate Open in his season debut…one of his three losses of the season came against eventual National Champion Logan Stieber of Ohio State when the two met in the National Duals Regional in Stillwater, Okla. Redshirt Sophomore (2010-11) – Brian Owen did not wrestle in any matches for the Broncos during his redshirt sophomore season.

Sophomore (2009-10) – Redshirted

Freshman (2008-09) – Qualified for the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid after placing fourth at the Pac-10 tournament at 125 pounds...fell in his first two matches at the tournament Career: 21-12 (63.6%) against No. 3 Angel Escobedo of Indiana and Nicholas Bedelyon of Kent State…went 2-2 at the Pac-10 Tournament, losing both his matches to Marcos Orozco of UC Davis…after falling to Orozco in the opening round he won two consecutive matches to earn a rematch with Orozco in the third-place match…finished the season with a 12-9 overall record and a 6-5 dual match record…recorded two major decisions and one fall…spent six weeks ranked nationally in the top-20 by USA Today/InterMat/NWCA….reached as high as No. 14 on Nov. 26….recorded one tournament title throughout the season, winning the Body Bar tournament. Freestyle – Placed third at the FILA Junior World Team Trails during the summer of 2008 and represented the United States at the Junior Pan-American games in Ecuador…competed in the 132-pound (60kg) weight class, placing third. High School –Put the finishing touches on a stellar high school career with an undefeated season and a Washington state championship in 2008…was the No. 2 ranked high school wrestler in the country at 119 pounds as a senior...finished his career at University High with a 124-4 record and two state titles...earned All-State honors in academics twice (2007 and 2008)…finished second in the freestyle division and third in Greco-Roman at the 2007 junior national tournament… brother of former Bronco volunteer assistant coach Tom Owen…high school coach was Don Owen.
