Guards Willi and company will look to first team All-ODAC selection Jessica Mullen and senior guard Jenny Logan to pick up the slack left after Burkholder's graduation. Last season, Mullen earned first team all-conference honors and was named to the VaSID All-State team after averaging 16.1 points per game in a breakout sophomore campaign. "She was able to sneak up on some people last year and wasn't the focus of opponents, but now she won't be able to fly under the radar. So, being able to still produce at a high level while the focus in on her will be a challenge this year," said Willi. Logan and fellow senior point guard Sarah Boeren were solid running the offense last season for the Eagles. Logan dished out 79 assists a season ago, while Boeren chipped in 2.9 points per game in a reserve role. Senior Jessie Owens will also push Logan and Boeren at the point guard position after seeing limited action a season ago. Three sophomores will battle for playing time at the other guard spot as Holly Morgan, Berlyn Seitz and Molly Shelley each return to the mix this season. Morgan averaged 5.4 points per game in over 15 minutes of action per game a season ago in a reserve role. Shelley and Seitz each saw a limited role off the bench, averaging under two points per game each. Willi brought in a talent-loaded freshman group of guards which will push the returners for playing time in the upcoming campaign. Three freshmen will look to earn minutes as the season opens as Lindsay Torbeck, Keslie Floyd and Kelly Hughes join the fray. Torbeck comes to Bridgewater fresh off a solid career at The Catholic High School of Baltimore. Floyd is a local product from nearby Riverheads High School while Hughes, a product of Annandale High School, brings size to the fray at the guard position. "Kelly Hughes brings nice size to the position that we haven't had in some time, Lindsey's bas-

A number of questions will need to be answered by the Bridgewater Eagles women's basketball team as the 2011-12 season quickly approaches. First of all, how do you replace All-American, ODAC Player of the Year and career scoring leader Jordan Burkholder? A season ago, Burkholder paced the Eagles to a 22-3 record in the regular season behind the fifth-highest single-season points total in school history and the most steals in a single season in program history. "Replacing Jordan will not be an easy task, and it also won't be done just by one person. It will take an across-the-board approach to replace everything that Jordan brought to the table," said head coach Jean Willi, who enters First team All-ODAC selection Jessica Mullen returns to the her 16th year at the helm of the Eagles promix for the Eagles in 2011-12. gram. After graduating five seniors in the offseason, the Eagles will have to find a way to replace 44 percent of their scoring from a season ago.

Young Women’s Basketball Team Ready for 2011 Season

BRIDGEWATER EAGLES

2011 Season Preview ketball IQ is really high and that's always a positive, said Willi. "Kelsie Floyd will be able to go at both the three and the four and her athleticism and strength at the position will be key." Forwards Youth is the word floating around at the forward position as the Eagles have a relatively inexperienced group at the position. "The good thing is that most of our forwards are good face-up shooters. We will need them to continue that trend as we will look to the post players for more effective scoring this season," commented Willi. Sophomore Rebecca Reifsnider is the lone pure forward who returns to the mix for the Senior Jenny Logan returns to the fray after average a career-high 9.4 points per game last season. Eagles this season. Reifsnider started off strong and averaged 2.4 points per game on the year. The Keymar, Md. native also averaged nearly 10 minutes of play per game. A pair of 5-10 freshmen will push Reifsnider early on for playing time as Emily Ashcraft and Kelsey Taylor add size and depth to the forward position. Ashcraft is a product of Caroline High School in the Richmond area, while Taylor comes from Brentsville High School in Nokesville, Va. Morgan could also be used at the forward spot. "Kelsey is athletic and has a solid left. She isn't afraid to be physical and put the ball on the ground. Kelsie could also run a bit in the post, and Emily is 5-10, has long arms and the overall size from our freshman is something we haven't had in some time," said Willi. Centers A safe balance of veteran play and youth are what Willi will have to work with at the center position. Junior Katelynn Hottinger returns to the mix after averaging a team-high 5.8 rebounds and swatting 49 shots a year ago. Hottinger averaged 6.3 points in over 20 minutes of action per game last season. Freshman Shannan Thorne also brings some size to the post position after a strong career at James Wood High School. Thorne, a 6-0 center, could see action at either the center or forward position. "We need more efficient scoring from our post players. We need them to produce more offensively just to help keep the defense honest. Shannan will be a great talent, she wants to work hard and learn and we're excited about her," said Willi about her centers. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) remains a challenge as a number of teams continue to push their way to the top. Defending champion Randolph-Macon, runner-up Roanoke and perennial power Washington and Lee remain the teams to beat in the ODAC. "W&L will be a challenge, they return three seniors to the mix and I would expect them to be the team to watch. Guilford also has a pretty solid young group, including some size in the post. When you add them to the Roanoke's and Randolph-Macon's of the league, I think it creates quite a challenge," said Willi. Bridgewater opens the 2011-12 season on November 19 when the Eagles travel to Baltimore for the Johns Hopkins Tournament. The Eagles open with Averett with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m. 4

Jean Willi Head Coach

16th Year

Alma Mater: Bridgewater ‘80

Entering her 16th year at the helm the Bridgewater women’s basketball program, Jean Willi has directed the Eagles to the 1999-00 and 2000-01 regular season ODAC titles, five NCAA Division III appearances, and the 1998-99 and 2007-08 Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship. Willi has compiled an impressive 296-115 mark for an outstanding 72% winning percentage. Willi spent 11 seasons as a Bridgewater assistant, before taking over as head coach prior to the 1996-97 season. Her first Eagles’ squad went 22-6 and gained the school’s firstever berth in the NCAA Division III tournament, and Willi was named the Old Dominion Athletic Coach of the Year. The Eagles followed with an even greater campaign in 1997-98, finishing with a 24-5 season mark (a school record for season victories) and reaching the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA tournament. For her accomplishments, Willi was named the 1998 College Division Coach of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID). The Eagles again reached the 20-win plateau in 1998-99, and captured the program’s first ODAC tournament title since 1990 with a 75-71 overtime victory over Randolph Macon in the championship game. For the fourth time in as many years as head coach, Willi again directed the Eagles’ to another 20-win season in 1999-2000. The team finished with an overall record of 20-6 and lost in the ODAC semifinals to Emory & Henry. The 2000-01 season marked another 20-win effort and another ODAC Coach of the Year honor for Willi as the Eagles won the ODAC regular-season title, finishing with a 21-5 record. In 200102 the Eagles finished 23-5 and lost to Guilford in the ODAC title game. In 2003-04, the Eagles reached the 20-win mark again and tied for the ODAC regular season title with Coach Willi once again named conference Coach of the Year. In 2005-06, the Eagles finished with a 24-7 record (tying the most wins in a season record) and received one of the at-large bids to the NCAA Division III tournaments. The Eagles advanced to the Sweet 16 with wins over Bates and Baruch, before falling to Southern Maine - the nation’s top-ranked team- on USM’s homecourt. Two years ago, the Eagles became the first sixth-seed to ever win the ODAC tournament title. Bridgewater upset the #3, #2, and #1 seeds to capture Willi’s second title.
