Falcons from page 1B teams wasn’t working on April 2, because Freedom had runners on base in every inning except the last. After scoring in the first inning on a wild pitch/passed ball, Freedom broke it open in the third, scoring three runs. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases, and the runners came home one by one on two sacrifices and an error to make it 4-0. The Falcons put the game on ice in the next inning when Chrissy Stalf doubled home Priscilla Olmos, followed by Williams’ towering shot over the centerfield fence to make it 7-0. Williams’ power on the mound matched by her power at the plate made it almost seem like she could have won the game by herself, so dominating was her performance. “Hannah pitched pretty well,”

Lions from page 1B Joey Cecchini, a sophomore, won the 100-yard freestyle and came in second in the 200-yard freestyle, knocking five seconds off his best time. Kaitlyn Holmsten won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races with some of her best times of the season. Liberty Coach Erica Pantle is pleased with what she’s seen so far from her team. “Overall this group is very cohesive,” she said. “Collectively as a team, they train about as hard as any team I have ever had before. said Freedom Manager Jeff Jonas in an understatement. “She had her drop (pitch) going – that worked. (The players) hit the ball alright today, which helps. To give her a lead like that, she’s pretty tough to beat. “Defensively, I thought my second baseman, Sarah Osborne, and (shortstop) Kim Westlund had a number of plays. I was pleased that we played good defense behind Hannah.” When asked what he likes about this team, Jonas said, “We have a lot of versatility at different spots. There’s a lot of kids that can bat. I like the fact that we have pretty good team speed. I like what some of our players do who are coming off the bench base-running and hitting for us. Our situational hitting is good right now. When we need a fly ball to get a run in from third, we have been able to do that.”

where they are with their times. I think they swam well, even though they were swimming against themselves, basically, to get their best times. But that’s tough to do. I am looking forward to meets where we have a little bit more competition, for sure.” Pantle credits her co-captains – Ben Keisic and Jacob Boyer on the boys team and Brenna Dillman and Mo duLong for the girls – for inspiring her team’s great work ethic. “I am getting some great performances out of some kids that I didn’t really expect,” she said. “I am very happy about that.” Liberty hosted Pittsburg on Thursday; next Friday, the Lions go up against Freedom.
