President's Message

W

elcome to this online issue of the SA Bowler magazine. I trust that Clubs will make sure that a copy is put on the notice board to ensure that it is available for all members. I would like to thank all Bowlers who gave so generously to the Wasleys Bowling Club to assist with the rebuild of their facilities. Thank you to ANZ who set up a special account at no cost to enable donations to be made across the State. See a report on Page 10. Recently the metropolitan Clubs hosted the MGA Men’s Country Carnival and Country Round Robins and once again we acknowledge the work and commitment of the metropolitan members who provided ideal conditions for their country cousins to play these annual competitions in the city. See the report on Page 5. It is impossible to mention all competitions but congratulations to all State players - men, women and juniors - who were so successful in the recent SA v VIC series. A full report is on Pages 18 & 19. The Board has continued to work with members of the State Consultative Body to look at the administration structure of bowls across the State. The results of our efforts will hopefully be an empowerment of bowlers at all levels and, BOWLS SA

dare I say it, less meetings for those volunteers who give their time so willingly. While our governance is on a very sound footing it is important that we keep up to date with both State and Federal thinking. Board members and staff have, over the last few months, attended workshops conducted by the Australian Sports Commission and the Office for Recreation and Sport, where governance models and effective delivery of funding to sporting bodies were presented for consideration. Thank you to all the Clubs and Associations that have invited me to their special functions and celebrations. While it is not always possible for me to attend we will always try to have Board representation. Once again I would like to mention the upcoming annual Awards Night to be held on Friday 6 May in the Endeavour Homes Pavilion, Morphettville Racecourse. More information on Page 15. This is a great night when the bowling community from across the State can come together to not only celebrate the success of our sport but to renew friendships; a most important part of our game. Finally, I wish all players a successful finish to play this season and look forward to meeting you somewhere around the greens!

I

CEO Report

f you enjoy playing sports as much as I do, then I don’t need to tell you why competing will benefit you not only now but the rest of your life. Sport has played a big role in my life including my career and I have sports to thank for some of the best memories. Playing catch with my Dad in the backyard, playing social Bowls at my local Club with my friends, or just catching up with friends and colleagues whom I have met while playing Sport … just a few of the fond memories that I have because I played sports growing up. Not everyone is the next LeBron James, Russell Ebert, Donald Bradman, Scott Thulborn or LLeyton Hewitt and that’s OK. You don’t have to be a star athlete to enjoy sports and reap the benefits that come along with playing. The benefits that come along with participating in sports will not just be felt immediately, but can last the rest of your life. They can help shape you into the person that you will become and provide a foundation that helps lead you into success in both life and within a career. So if you’re scratching your head and asking yourself how can sports, and in particular Bowls, possibly help with your life, here are five reasons I believe sports will make you a better person and help you in your future endeavours: 1. Sports and physical activity help relieve stress and reduce depression and can lead to a healthy lifestyle. We all have stress in our life at some point or another. Whether it’s the test you are cramming for or the job interview that you are preparing for, physical activity will help calm your nerves and help you focus on the task in hand. And if you are healthy, you are happier and can accomplish more. 2. Playing sports provides the structure that can help you build solid habits. These habits include setting goals and objectives and then working hard to accomplish them. 3. Teamwork and leadership. These are two more qualities that employers look for in a manager or supervisor. Sports provide an excellent opportunity for kids to work together and step up to a challenge. Whether it’s working together to win the game or working together

to complete a project before the deadline, the foundation of these two qualities will grow on the playing field and only get stronger as you get older. 4. Sportsmanship and ethics. Sports will teach you how to be a humble winner and gracious in defeat. It can help you learn from your defeats and not rest on your laurels when winning. And most importantly, it will teach you how to do it the right way no matter how important winning seems at times. 5. Playing sports is fun! You make friends and it provides positive self-esteem. Sports provide an outlet. Life gets serious and sports provide a way to step out of reality for an hour or two. Plus, what better way to make friends, enjoy your free time from your busy schedule, and feel good about yourself. I grew up playing sports and not much has changed in my adult life. Whether it’s going for a jog, playing Bowls, or kicking a football, I enjoy being active and involved. I still use things I learned on the field in my everyday life. I recall situations and how I reacted and use the scenarios to tackle my new problems. The character that can be developed on the field or on the court is something that you will take with you forever. As we’re now at the pointy end of the season, I wish you all the very best on the green (creating those memories) and I look forward to seeing you at the Bowls Awards ‘night of nights’ on 6 May at Endeavour Homes Pavilion, Morphettville Racecourse. MGA Men’s Country Carnival

nce again the MGA Men’s Country Carnival, held February 1 – 8, was well supported by country bowlers in their annual week of bowls and camaraderie in the city. The week commenced with Fours, however, unseasonal heavy rain on Tuesday flooded greens across the metropolitan area and in line with the Conditions of Play, forced the cancellation of the Singles event for 2016. The weather cleared and the Pairs were played on Wednesday with Fours and Pairs knockouts continuing unaffected for the rest of the week, and in fantastic conditions, the Finals were conducted at Marion Bowling Club. Heavily dominated by family connections, the Fours event was Fours Winners: Peter Alexander, Fred Kelly, Mick Hallion won by the team of Bob Vowles, Mick Hallion, Fred Kelly and Peter Alexander from Victor Harbor after an assertive display in and Bob Vowles the final, winning 18-7, against Fred’s son Justin Kelly (McLaren Vale) and his team of Jason McCauley (Willunga), Dennis Collier (McLaren Vale) and Les Carter (McLaren Vale). Australian Deaf Games

T

he XVII Australian Deaf Games were held in Adelaide January 10-15 and this year’s championships included 12 different sporting disciplines, from Beach Volleyball to Golf, Futsal to Lawn Bowls.

The Men’s Fours trophy was taken out by the Victorians in a tight game of the final match on the final day with Queensland needing to get up against Western Australia but falling short by five shots.

The Lawn Bowls competition was held at the Croydon Bowling Club over four days with 38 bowlers from QLD, NSW, VIC and WA along with two entries from New Zealand.

The Men’s Triples was taken out by New South Wales courtesy of a draw on the first day by the Victorian B team.

The men played a three day round robin in Fours and Triples, whilst the women bowlers played Singles and Pairs with the New Zealand entries playing in composite teams. The final day was a Mixed Triples format with some participants needing to return for pennant competitions in their respective States. The opening ceremony on Sunday January 10 was attended by invited guests, Dignity for Disability MLC Hon. Kelly Vincent, City of Charles Sturt Mayor Angela Evans, City of Charles Sturt Ward Councillor Paul Alexandrides, Bowls SA Vice President Wayne Prosser, Bowls Australia Regional Bowls Managers Shane Moon and Ian James, General Manager Deaf Sports Australia Garry West-Bail, Administrator Deaf Lawn Bowls Australia Anthony Gorringe OAM and President Croydon Bowling Club Shane Neal.

Heather Wilson of Victoria won all six matches of the Women’s Singles with the sole New Zealand entrant, Patricia Hansen, coming second. Partnered with Lyn Raeburn, Heather Wilson also took out the Women’s Pairs. A very successful Australian Deaf Games was rounded off with Victoria taking out the perpetual trophy, as Overall winners of the women’s and men’s events, and medals presented at a wrap up BBQ dinner. A large number of volunteers from Deaf Sports Australia assisted during the week keeping competitors hydrated and assisting with interpreting as well as a tremendous amount of hours by Croydon Bowling Club volunteers assisting in marking, and manning the kitchen and bar. A big thankyou to all that assisted.

SA Bowling Greenkeepers Association Information Seminar

After a successful field day at the Nuriootpa Bowling Club in September, the South Australian Bowling Greenkeepers Association held our annual information seminar on the first Monday of the Men’s Country Carnival at the Lockleys Bowling Club. After a quick bite to eat the evening was kicked off by Rohan Davies from BASF, who spoke on the varying formulations of fertilisers and their practicalities of application and, aside from some of the science being a challenge, it was explained in simple terms why specific turf fertilisers are beneficial for many reasons. Second up was Don Cameron from Hydroplan who spoke on the different irrigation techniques available to Turf Managers and the challenges involved with attaining even, consistent watering particularly when only given the chance to water once a week as is the case for Bowling green managers. Last, but not least, was the great Daryl Sellar (Turfwise Consulting) who is the Superintendent at the Glenelg Golf Course. Daryl’s presentation was, needless to say, inspiring and for the apprentices in the room it was a great insight into the professionalism that our trade can reach. A special treat for all attendees were images and commentary on the achievements of Daryl and his team, working and negotiating, with the Glenelg Golf Course committee, which has seen this very costly project deliver an amazing, environmentally sound course to their members.

After an interesting Q & A session with the guest speakers the evening was wound up. Thank you to Brad Porter for organising the night. This will be a regular item on our calendar during the Men’s Country Carnival week so please add it to your planner and get involved. Please remember we are a volunteer organisation and at that time of year we are some very busy people. We are very approachable and willing to make ourselves available to the bowls community so you don’t need an invite to get involved. Our annual information morning and AGM (venue to be decided) will be held on Friday 6 May with three guest speakers provided by our major sponsors. It promises to be a great morning for all Bowling Club greenkeepers and you don’t need to be a current member to attend. Subscriptions will be available and for the small outlay to become a member you will be provided with lunch and the opportunity to mingle with members and the guest speakers. Rebuilding after the Pinery Fires

T

he impact caused by the Pinery fire on 25 November last year has been well documented and the community response to those left in distress has been generous and warm hearted. The lawn bowls community was hit hard, with two associates of the sport tragically lost to the fires. Additionally many bowlers suffered significant property loss including homes, farm equipment and livestock and

specifically the Wasleys Bowling Club clubhouse and contents were entirely destroyed. While the effects of the fire will have a long term effect on the residents and local communities it has been heartening to see the huge level of support from not only South Australia but around Australia which has hopefully helped to lessen the emotional and financial strain for many of those affected.

Along with many individual donations, there has been an extremely generous response from Bowling Clubs, whose fundraising efforts have taken the total of the Bowls SA Relief fund to over $35,200, in addition to donations presented to Wasleys Bowling Club. BOWLS SA

Around the State, Clubs have continued to hold fundraisers and Sports SA have donated sports equipment to the Wasleys Primary School and the local community with assistance from Bowls SA and the Wasleys Bowling Club. Neighbouring Hamley Bridge Bowling Club immediately offered the full use of its greens and clubhouse to the Wasleys members so that their season could continue with the least possible disruption. The offer was graciously accepted with the arrangement in place until Wasleys’ facilities can be re-established. This gesture has further strengthened the unique bond the two

clubs have developed over many years. In a gesture of solidarity the annual pre-season challenge game trophy was renamed in tribute to Janet Hughes whose life was taken in the Pinery Fire. A monumental effort from the Green keeping team with guidance from Nigel Ryan and David Rogers has returned the green to a suitable playing surface. A special thankyou to the Berri Bowling Club for travelling to Wasleys to cut and groom the green just days after the fire, bringing with them all machinery and the generator to power the units. Wasleys returned home for the last four Pennant games of the season, hosting

a Hamley Bridge team on the first pennant games upon returning. Working together with the Wasleys Primary School Principal, the Club secured the use of the Old School House as a temporary Clubhouse, with many players returning to school for the first time for many years. The last Pennant game for the season was played at Wasleys on Saturday 27 February, when Wasleys hosted Port Wakefield. President Barry McDougall was presented with a very special memento; a piece a burnt wood from the Wasleys Clubhouse carefully sealed and housed in a polished oak SA BOWLER | March 2016 | 11

wooden box labelled, “Best Rink of the Day”. This partners with the HogbenMcDougall “Ashes Challenge Cup”. The inaugural Ashes Challenge game was held on 9 January with Wasleys transferring a home game saw all three teams from Wasleys and Port Wakefield, converge on Port Wakefield to battle for the prestigious and emotional memento. Port Wakefield were declared victorious on the day claiming the “Wasleys Ashes” Challenge Cup. In another wonderful show of neighbourly support, members of the Hamley Bridge Management Committee decided that they would arrange a fund raising tournament with proceeds to be transferred to the Wasleys Club to assist them with their rehabilitation program. The event was held on 24 January with a full field of both metropolitan and country based teams with all income from entry fees, bar and raffle profits, special sponsorship funds and other fund raising activities passed over to the Wasleys Management Committee. At the conclusion of the day with all players retiring to the Clubhouse, Hamley Bridge Club Secretary Roger McQuire presented Wasleys with a mounted wood carved Phoenix, symbolising “the Phoenix will rise”. The Hamley Club members put in an inordinate amount of effort to broaden the support and the generosity of spirit 12 | SA BOWLER | March 2016

from sponsors, organisations and individuals has been exceptional and they are sincerely thanked for their contributions and kindness. In another generous display of support and camaraderie the Mount Pleasant Bowling Club President, Bo Hambly handed over their Club facilities to Wasleys President Barry McDougall on Sunday 6 March so Wasleys could host the Landmark President’s Invitation Medley Fours, after the original annual tournament was cancelled due to the fire. Sixteen teams from metropolitan and country Clubs took to the green, with Warooka taking the honours of having travelled the greatest distance. Taking out honours for the days play, were Swan Reach, Nuriootpa and Wasleys with the encouragement award presented to the combined Mount Pleasant/Wasleys President and Secretary team. While David Millington of MGA Insurance Brokers has been extremely helpful in fast tracking the claim for the Wasleys Bowling Club, rebuilding the clubhouse will take some time. In a timely reminder it is only through devastating events such as the Pinery Fire that you realise the importance of reviewing your insurance policy annually and seeking assistance to ensure adequate coverage.

Bowls SA and Bowls Australia have been very supportive throughout the recovery process, with regular contact from Mark Easton and the Bowls SA Staff offering assistance and direction and a comforting “how are you going”. Regular calls to “home base” has allowed Wasleys to use Bowls SA as a conduit to gain access to services and agencies, enabling Wasleys to lead from the front foot in the recovery process. Demolition of the Wasleys Clubhouse and out buildings will begin very soon. The Board of Management, where possible, have engaged the services of local business and trades to assist in the recovery process and the recovery committee is working very closely with the Light Regional Council, to ensure full optimisation of the resources available for the rebuild. Progress of the recovery will be posted on the Wasleys Bowling Club Facebook page. The response from businesses, bowlers, family and friends around the State and across Australia has demonstrated how incredibly well the community rallies to help when times are tough - Thankyou to all. Brad McDougall Administrative Secretary Wasleys Bowling Club

In partnership with Caravan & Camping SA, Bowls SA was given the opportunity to exhibit at the February ‘Let’s Go Caravan & Camping Lifestyle Show’. The aim was to promote the sport of Bowls and also provide an avenue for Member Clubs to encourage people to experience the social side of Lawn Bowls – Night Owls, hosting an event or even calling in to a regional club during their travels. Volunteers were able to market the benefits of the sport and also the advantages of social involvement as a member of the bowls community. The stand was set up with brochures and flyers, and episodes of Bowls Exposed looped on a screen. With over 30,000 through the gates over the five days of the event, this represented a unique avenue for broadcasting the benefits of the sport and Club membership to a fitting demographic. Episode 15 of Bowls Exposed also features roving reports taken at the Show, and a feature interview on the main stage. Thank you to the members of Holdfast Bay, Torrensville, Blackwood, Adelaide, Payneham, Clarence Gardens, Port Noarlunga, Ascot Park and Morphett Vale, who did an amazing job of representing bowls over the five days; educating visitors to the stand about the sport and encouraging them to subscribe to the Bowls SA newsletter ‘Calling the Shots’. We are also grateful to Caravan and Camping SA for providing this opportunity to Bowls SA at no cost.

Country Round Robins

The 2016 Men’s & Women’s Country Round Robins were held at Marion and Payneham Bowling Clubs respectively from Tuesday 9 February until Friday 12 February 2016.

The result of the Women’s Country Round Robin came down to shots up with Region 5 Eyre Peninsula and Region 3 Upper North both finishing on 12 points.

With the memory of last year’s high temperatures it was a welcome relief to have temperatures around the 30 degrees for all days of play.

Eyre Peninsula however took out the title with 151 shots ahead of Upper North with 63 shots.

With only one loss over the seven rounds and a final score of 114 shots and 12 points, Region 2 Yorke Peninsula took out the title of the Men’s Country Round Robin Champions for 2016. Region 7 Fleurieu & KI claimed second place with 103 shots and 10 points. Best performed rink went to Ashlin Cock (skip), Damon Edmunds, Ross Borlase and Mark Wrigley from Eyre Peninsula with six wins, one loss and 54 shots.

It was also a close finish in determining the women’s best performed rink with Helen Minhard (Eyre Peninsula) and Karen Baker (Yorke Peninsula) both finishing with 12 points. It was up to the count back on shots which saw the Eyre Peninsula team of Helen Minhard (skip) Sandy Blacker, Sue Rumbelow and Sue Fisher take the title with a 20 shots difference in their favour. A big thank you to hosts Marion and Payneham Bowling Clubs, and appreciation to the Umpires, volunteers and Region 6 Councillors Jan Kennedy and Wayne Lee for their outstanding efforts assisting in the running the 2016 events.

Little did they know how valuable that piece of equipment would prove to be and so quickly.

These machines may not be cheap, but what price do you put on a life.

On Saturday 7 November 2015 well known Club member, Bill, collapsed on the green during the last end of the pennant game.

If your Club feels they cannot afford one, perhaps the local service clubs would assist. Not only could it save a member’s life but placed in the right area it can be made accessible to other residents in need.

Two members quickly recognised that Bill was in trouble and started CPR, while another rang for an ambulance and another ran for the defibrillator.

Thanks to the demonstration by Kate, the members were able to attach the machine and set it to automatically do what it’s programmed to do … save lives. Bill was revived; the value of the machine indisputable when the readout showed that he had no pulse and had died. Initially taken to Victor Harbor Hospital Bill was transferred by helicopter to Flinders Medical Centre where he spent the next week. On Saturday 14 November a very much alive Bill called into the Club to watch his mates play and to say a ‘heartfelt’ thanks. With a pace-maker now fitted Bill and his wife Betty and their family

The Murray River is a picturesque site of house boats, paddle-steamers and happy, relaxed people. Sit back and relax while observing the beauty of this natural wonder.

Bowlers from country and metro regions who have earned their spot to compete at this event will battle to take home the coveted State titles. Although many of the Murray Bridge attractions are water based, such as skiing and swimming, there are many exciting land attractions that are also well worth a visit. Whilst you are taking a break off the green, make sure you have a chance to sample some of the local food and wine and visit one of their many tourist attractions.

Murray Bridge Mayor Brenton Lewis said the Council was proud to attract such an event to the Town; “The Rural City of Murray Bridge is extremely proud to attract this event to the region, which provides not only great entertainment and competition to all bowlers, but brings in valuable tourism spend through visitors to the region for the event.” The Murray River is indeed a popular tourist attraction within South Australia, but amongst its many well

The annual SA v VIC Series

The annual SA v VIC Series for the representative State teams was held at Marion Bowling Club from Wednesday 17 until Friday 19 February 2016. This year saw changes to the teams, in particular in the women’s side, with a number of players making their debut. The SA team matched the spectacular conditions with some sensational bowls; the two SA teams starting strongly on the first day, to both claim the first test; the women with a 61-56 win and the men up 64-50.

The final day of play proved to be exciting, with the SA women just going down to Victoria 52-57 to make their final series score line three tests to two, while the SA men stormed ahead to take an early lead and, in what turned out to be a nail-biter, held on to clinch the series with a 65-59 win, also claiming the trophy with three tests to two. Thank you to Marion Bowling Club for hosting the event; to the officials who volunteered their time and to the spectators whose cheers spurred on our teams to this double victory.

The afternoon test saw a complete reversal with the Victorian teams storming home to level up their respective series, the Victorian women winning 70-54 and the Victorian men getting up 72-50. Thursday was an extremely important day for both sides. The SA women were all set to claim the series for the first time in a number of years having two test wins over Victoria: 66-45 and 68-43. The Victorian men took out the morning test 59-51 before SA fought back to win the afternoon test 69-52 to equalise the wins and confirm the final game as the series decider. Thursday also saw two players in the men’s side play their 100th State Game for South Australia, with Max Kleinig notching up his 100 in the morning game, closely followed by Scott Thulborn in the afternoon.

Under 18 SA v VIC Series

The annual Under 18 SA v VIC Series was held at Holdfast Bay Bowling Club from Tuesday 12 until Thursday 14 January. The 2015 series was held in June in Victoria, and this year the move back to January proved successful with a week of warm conditions. Following a solid Nationals campaign, the SA Boys’ team performed admirably to take out the series with a 3 test win; only dropping one Triples game during the series which sets them up well for another strong showing at the 2016 Nationals. The SA Girls’ team are again rebuilding after losing some experienced players, however they fought gallantly to go down 0-3 to the extremely strong Victorian girls’ combination. The young team have gained a great deal from the experience however and can take what they have learned into the 2016 Nationals to be held in SA, October 1 – 3, 2016. Thanks go to Holdfast Bay Bowling Club for hosting the event, as well as the officials who assisted during the series. State Mixed Pairs 2015 - 2016 After many postponements due to the weather the State Mixed Pairs competition was completed on 15 February 2016 at the Lockleys Bowling Club. The final was a close contest between seasoned competitors Craig Treloar (Salisbury) and Kerry Treloar from Berri and the future generation team of Tyson Wilson (Grange) and Bailey Rafferty (Two Wells). The outcome was down to the last ends, but the mother/ son combination of Craig and Kerry came out on top winning 14-11.

Cheques from $99 to $5,000 have been presented to Clubs by local Branch Managers as part of the ANZ Home Introducer Program. Yorketown Bowling Club alone has received over $5,500 over the last 18 months, which has contributed to paving around the Club. It is easy for your own Club to get a piece of the pie. There’s three easy steps: 1. Ask Club members to tell their friends and family about the ANZ Home Introducer program, particularly those you know are on the lookout for a new property (housing or commercial); 2. Your friend enquires about a home loan at their ANZ branch; 3. If they take out the loan with ANZ, your Club receives 0.33% commission. On a $250,000 loan, that’s $825 for your Club from a five minute conversation! A record number of commissions were paid out for December loans. Cheques were presented to the following Clubs: • Ardrossan: $1,039.50 • Ceduna: $522.08 • Encounter Bay: $99 • Jamestown: $5,513.03 • Laura: $438 • McLaren Vale: $710.16 • Riverton: $927.90 • Victor Harbor: $165 • Stansbury: $1,056 • Streaky Bay: $567.60 • Yankalilla: $999.06 If you would like more information about the program, or contact details for the Branch Manager in your area, please call Bowls SA on 8234 7544 or email sponsorship@bowlssa.com.au Kate Chapley Sponsorship & Grants Officer 24 | SA BOWLER | March 2016

The world is not as secure as we might think. Whatever rights A properly drafted Will will assist in reducing those situations you do have you will need to exercise. but not necessarily do away with a growing area of disputation. The finals receive two years income maintenance at most after which time, unless you are severely injured, you are on your own. are beckoning and there is a pennant at risk. To qualify for ongoing income maintenance you have to have an impairment of your person defined under particular medical documents of over 30%. In the last 10 years you can count on one hand the number of Maurice Blackburn Lawyers 30% impairments I have sighted. 420 King William St, Adelaide SA 5000 There are not going to be many injured people who meet that www.mauriceblackburn.com.au threshold. Likewise with your medical bills essentially you have three years from the date of injury after which time your medical bills are going to be your own responsibility. There is a possibility that your medical bills beyond that time, for serious surgery or the like, may be covered but you will need, to some extent, to be reliant upon the discretion of the insurer involved. Professional life has taught me that is not always a wise thing to do. Examples of cases can be found where, years down the track, there will be a need for surgery which may or may not be covered by workcover. Not a great deal of security really. The other area that is underutilised, or has been up until recently perhaps, is that of the rights to lump sums for total and permanent disability. Since the introduction of compulsory super in the early 1990s many of the policies have attached to it total and permanent disability entitlements. You should always look at that issue in the course of any accident in your lifetime, be it at work or elsewhere. The common law, where you seek compensation from someone responsible for your damage is also available. The most comprehensive way of looking after someone with any injury is a common law claim. However, there are many caps and restrictions on the assessments these days. This is particularly the case in the changes to motor vehicle collision law over the last three years. In relation to all of the above situations you really do need to get legal advice. There are plenty of lawyers who will assess your matter quickly and efficiently as to whether it is viable and whether to proceed forward. Other areas of risk in life, such as medical procedures, walking down the street and other public liability type situations occur daily. These areas are less restricted in terms of common law rights at this time (although there is a government initiative to try and reduce them) and you still have rights to exercise.

You Be the Umpire In a singles match the jack is rolled and appeared likely to enter the ditch had it not hit the foot of the marker. The opponent claims the right to roll the jack again. Is the opponent correct? A delivered bowl comes to rest on the green and in contact with the jack which is in the ditch. It is claimed that, as the bowl is a live bowl and is in contact with the jack in the ditch, it is a toucher. Is this correct? A player in team A suggests that a bowl is out. Skip A checks it and picks it up agreeing that it is out. The opposing Skip objects. What should be done? A bowl is delivered fairly wide. As it re-enters its own rink it contacts an opponent’s bowl which had been declared dead but left lying just outside the boundary line. As a result of the collision both bowls came to rest in their own rink. What is the position with regard to both bowls? The marker in a singles game has been asked by one of the players to measure all shots during the game. When all bowls had been played in an end and before the players had reached the head, the marker has recorded the score on the score card and kicked the bowls out of the head. Is he correct?
