Sale Terms & Conditions The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The owners, Bouchard Livestock Ltd. and sale staff have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and/or who has not made prior credit arrangements prior to the sale with the owners and/or Sale Management. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration of Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but Sale Management or Seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instruction when making settlement. GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to applicable Canadian breed Association guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze. HEALTH - It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Bouchard Livestock Ltd assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale. ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and the terms and conditions of this sale do not cover obligations of the two parties connected thereto. I don’t know how and why this female is for sale but here she is – in full color. Besides being phenotypically flawless she has all the bells and whistles! Homo polled, a unique and interesting pedigree, outstanding numbers across the board and a sweetheart to be around. His bull calves were popular last spring and we can’t wait to get these daughters into production they are going to be superior females. Her dam is none other than 493U arguably our most prolific donor cow. She is the dam to MRL Destination the $46,000 high selling red bull in our 2012 sale to Nisku Farms. His sons will lead the way in our bull sale this spring. In all our years we have never dug this deep for our offering. This black blaze face female will not take a back seat to any in our string. She is super powerful, angular made and setting up a beautiful udder. Sired by the Black Baron bull we purchased at this very sale as the high selling bull from Come as UR out of the 354T female that topped Shades 2 years prior to that, and has become a big time donor for them. A grandson of the 354T female is causing quite a stir this fall and was just recently named Grand Champion bull at Fall Fair in Brandon for Come as UR. Pretty cool pedigree on this dark red eye catcher by Red Western and out of a beautiful cow we purchased right here at Shades from TSN. As you can see, we dug extremely deep for our bred heifer lineup, offering some of our most elite genetics but we may have even outdone ourselves with our open heifer entry. The first MRL Integrity daughter to sell and one that will do him proud. MRL Integrity, of course, our lead off bull in 2012 going to Ashworth Farm and Ranch at $48,000. A herdbull we are really high on and he has bred extremely well for the Ashworth’s and here at MRL and totally exclusive to only these two programs. This female is a lot like her daddy - so stout-made yet soft in her makeup, with a ton of hair and so gentle to be around. We are so excited for ourselves and Ashworth’s about the contribution these genetics will make to the Simmental breed. Not just due to Integrity, however. Her dam, 748R, a Lucky Dice female, raised a $15,000 son to NLC Ranch in SD and a Predator son last year to Hoiby Simmental Ranch in ND, and was the granddam to a lead off $10,000 bred heifer last fall to Erixon Simmentals in our fall female sale. This young lady is one of the stoutest, easiest-keeping females we have ever raised and a pretty cool pedigree to boot.

Twisted Star will be one of the first Horizon heifers to sell and what makes her unique is she is black, with a bit of chrome! These Horizon calves all possess “the look”. We don’t often sell bred heifers but we thought it was time to bring one to Shades - so we brought one from the very top. She is a long, big -ribbed, stout-made Predator daughter. Her Dam, 721W, was the lead off heifer calf at the MRL spring sale in 2010. TNT Gunner and Predator work extremely well together - as you can see with 54Z. The Predator females have proven themselves to be great working cows, with great udders, and are the easy keeping kind of cow that we like. 54Z comes from a proven cow family and is a bred you really need to take a look at! The service that 54z is carrying is one that you’ll want to watch for down the road. We would like to work with the new owners and get a flush on 54z. TSN 31A has been one of my favorite calves all summer. She is a very attractive Predator daughter. 31A’s full brother was a standout bull calf at our spring bull sale this year. Zada is a solid red, polled heifer that goes back to the beginning of my foray back into the Simmental industry with my purchase of a Bodybuilder daughter from Mar Mac. Chelsea 65N turned out to be the foundation of my red program. I was able to get her bred to Wheatland 657S, a Remington Red Label son and thus was born Xanadu. Zada, like her mother, matured fast, set a nice udder and is very fertile. Red Ace is a well known sire that produces consistency and performance in all of his offspring and Zada is reflection of this. With the early mating to IPU Diablo, Labatte’s high selling Crosby x Wheatland Red Teddy, this calf will fall out and turn into a money maker, heifer or bull. Welcome to the 2013 edition of The Shades of the Prairies Sale from all of us at Broken Oak Black Simmental. We are located 2 miles east and 1 mile north of Rapid City overlooking the scenic Little Saskatchewan River valley. We breed solely multi-generational, black, polled purebred seedstock and have been breeding black Simmental probably as long as anyone in this province. We based our foundation herd on Black Joker x 600U females and utilized AI extensively. At Wheatland’s inaugural bull sale we purchased “Wheatland Bull459P”, affectionately referred to as “Sevens” making him the high selling black bull that day. His influence is still present in many of our females today, and a bull we feel very fortunate and forever grateful to Vern and Denise for allowing us to own. With the acquisition of “Carly” embryos from MarMac, “MSC Top Tessie 98T” from Twin Brae and two outstanding females from Mader ranches ,“Farmgirl 12W” and “Top Shelf 28Y”, and the addition of “R Plus Cool Change 1107Y” as our new herdsire, we feel very confident that we remain in a good position to produce the right kind of cattle for todays market. We market our bulls in the spring at the Cattleman’s Classic in Virden along with our good friends the Mores and the Downeys. This is a female that is extremely hard to part with, but after much deliberation around the kitchen table, the decision was made to offer her for your consideration. Lesley wanted to sell an open heifer, but I always thought this female had something special to give so this should be her calling. We knew that after missing Shades last year we had to come back with an outstanding female and I believe Smarty Pants fits that bill. Admired by all who have seen her this summer, she is deep, thick-quartered and very well balanced and carries it all on a good set of feet and legs. She angles up well and blends smoothly into an ultra clean front end with nice extension to her neck and finishes off with a very eye appealing, smooth-peaked, polled head. And no wonder, as “Smarty Pants” is sired by the “Beach Boy 362U” bull, who now works at R+ and off a tremendous “Show Off” female that came to us from the Pizzeys via the Hoedown Sale. It goes without saying, of course, she is solid black, backed by muti-generations of black and polled genetics. “Beach Boy” sires super females and we swore we would not sell anymore so don’t miss out on your chance to own one of his best. “Smarty Pants” is show broke so if you are so inclined you could be in for a pretty good run next summer with her and a “Superstout 014” baby at side.

Zenyatta is a flashy, solid black, polled daughter out of a heifer that I bought from Triple R as the high selling calf at this very sale. Ms X-Elle grew into a beautiful, deep-bodied female, with a nice tidy udder. X-Elle has produced two calves as a result of her flush to 680S. Welcome to the 2013 Shades of the Prairies Sale. We are very pleased to be joining this great sale for the first time. We hail from the historic town of Perth in Eastern Ontario and do cash cropping as well as raising Simmental cattle. I’d like to thank Brian and his staff for considering our simmentals for the sale and also for their assistance in preparation for the event. I’ve always admired and used Simmental genetics in my commercial herd and over the last decade plus have worked towards improving the registered purebred and fullblood groups. However the greatest joy is derived from all the wonderful people you meet who are associated with the breed.
