Youth tourism

outh tourism can be simply defined as the tourism in which young people participate31. We are talking about the tourists who, because of their age, have partly different needs and preferences regarding the tourist travel than the tourists of other age groups. This

weeks, and sometimes can last a few months or even a whole year. Important feature of young tourists is their inclination to cheaper kinds of accommodation. That’s why this type of tourists mostly stays in the hostels, private accommodation or the lower category hotels. Young tourists more often take part in various kinds of physically demanding activities like bungee jumping, paragliding,

means that the activities they are occupied with, as well as the accommodation capacities intended for them have certain specificities. Even though the term “young people” seems clear at the first sight, there’s still no unambiguous and generally accepted definition. In most of the home and foreign literature, the term “young people” is related to people aged between 15 and 2932. The demand for youth tourism has been increasing in the past decade much faster that the demand for other types of tourism. According to the information from the World tourist organization, youth tourism makes about 20-25% of the world tourist market. The researches33 show that about 180 millions of international youth travels was realized in 2007, what is increase of 12.5% in comparison with the year 2005, when this number was 160 millions. The value of the youth tourism market in 2005 amounted 7.4 milliards of US dollars, and it’s estimated that its value until the year 2020 will increase to 12 milliards of US dollars. Average length of young people trips in 2007 was 53 days34. People involved in youth tourism are usually people who are in transitional period of life, i.e. people who are finishing their formal education, leave parent’s home, becoming independent and starting their own professional career. Besides the younger age, there is also a whole line of other characteristics by which it’s possible to differentiate the tourists from the segment of youth tourism from other tourists. In distinction from classical tourists, whose main motives for the tourist trip are relaxation and taking part in so called leisure activities, the motives of young people’s trips are much more various. Besides leisure and fun, main motives for the young people trips also include learning about new cultures and customs, spiritual growth and development, education, foreign language learning and the experience of a destination they stay at through the intensive communication and contact with domicile population. Tourist travels in youth tourism usually last for a few

Potentials for the development of special types of tourism in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina the biggest potential for the development in BiH: cultural, ethno, health, business, rural tourism, then eco, sportsrecreational, religious, adventurous tourism as well as the development of oenological-gastro offer35. In accordance with afore mentioned special types of tourism, the areas in F BiH where certain types of tourism could be developed are defined hereafter.
