News & Notes The BIG Picture Head coach Jamelle Elliott enters her fourth season at the helm of the UC women’s basketball program. Last year, Elliott led Cincinnati to its most successful season in recent years after finishing with a 16-16 record – a seven-game improvement from 2010-11 and the most wins under Elliott. To cap the season, UC advanced to postseason play for the first time since 2005-06 and won its first postseason game in 10 years.

Cincinnati has the returning leadership of eight letterwinners, three of which started 20 games or more last year. Dayeesha Hollins, who redshirted the 2010-11 season, returns after leading the squad with 14.8 ppg. Hollins, an all-BIG With an overtime victory over Duquesne in the WNIT on March 16, 2012, the Bearcats won their first postseason game in 10 years. The team’s 16 wins and six BIG EAST victories were the most in five years and highest under the direction of head coach Jamelle Elliott, who enters her fourth season in 2012-13.

EAST second team selection, also added 4.1 rpg and 3.5 apg. Kayla Cook started all 32 games last year, averaging 6.1 ppg. Tiffany Turner averaged 6.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg in 31 appearances and Jeanise Randolph came off the bench to give the Bearcats 6.5 ppg and 5.4 rpg.

Who’s Gone The Bearcats lost four letterwinners, including two starters from last year’s squad. UC looks to replace graduated seniors Chanel Chisholm and Bjonee Reaves. Chisholm led the team with 5.8 rpg, while Reaves was the team’s best 3-point shooter at 35.3 percent. Chisolm started all 32 games, averaging 8.7 ppg. Reaves played in all 32 games, averaging 13.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 2.7 apg.

Storylines UC returns its best shooter in forward Jeanise Randolph, who made a team-best 56.8 percent (63-111) of her shots. After sitting out for the first 11 games of the season due to injury, she finished second on the team in rebounding (5.4 rpg) and fourth in scoring (6.5 ppg). Cincinnati welcomes four newcomers in Shelbi Chandler (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), Alexis Durley (Houston, Texas/Andy Dekaney), Destini Feagin, and Jasmine Whitfield (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham).
