Choose Bates Technical College The Bates Advantage Our mission is to inspire, challenge and educate. Whether you’re still in high school, or beginning college, Bates Technical College offers a wide range of educational opportunities.

• Program variety, including ESL. We offer nearly 50 career

education degree or certificate programs as well as high school completion offerings. If you need to polish your English skills, you can enroll in the ELS Language Center located at our Downtown Campus.

• No English proficiency required. Students who are proficient

in English may enroll directly into Bates, but for those who are not, you can enroll in ELS Language Centers, receive a conditional letter of acceptance from Bates and smoothly transfer to the program of your choice.

• Small class sizes and hands-on learning. You’ll learn from caring instructors in classrooms that mimic the workplace to prepare for a global job market.

• We value international students. The college has a dedicated

International Student Advisor who can assist you with choosing the right program, plan your arrival in the States and more.

• Affordability. Our tuition and fees are low,

and students enjoy affordable living expenses. “I chose Bates because it was more affordable than other colleges. I am able to earn an associate degree in a short period of time, and get a hands-on learning experience.”

Where is Bates Technical College? Tacoma, Washington is situated 50 kilometers south of Seattle, along the shores of Commencement Bay, at the foot of Mount Rainier. It is home to many cultural attractions, restaurants and parks. Seattle, a major international city, houses many businesses including Microsoft, Expedia, Nintendo, Amazon and Starbucks.

The Pacific Northwest, found near the beautiful Pacific Ocean and majestic mountain ranges, is known for its moderate climate and close proximity to outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, whale watching and kayaking.

Four great options to meet your goals •

Intensive English study through ELS Language Centers – Students who do not have English proficiency may apply to ELS Language Centers, conveniently located on our Downtown Campus. Upon completing ELS Level 109, students transfer to Bates to continue in their career training program of choice.

High-school completion – Get a Washington State high school diploma and earn college credit at the same time.

Professional/technical degree or certificate – Study a program and earn a certificate in just six to nine months. Or continue in the program to earn your Associate of Applied Science degree. Students usually like this option so that you can study for a short time, and then enter the job market in your country.

Four-year university transfer options – Earn an AAS -T (Associate of Applied Science - Transfer degree) at Bates, and then transfer to a four-year university. Earning your AAS -T can save you money.

Getting started at Bates is easy… Admission Requirements • Proof of English Proficiency or enroll in ELS-Tacoma (on campus) and receive a conditional acceptance letter from Bates. Start your career training program once you reach ELS Level 109. • No GPA requirement. All students are assessed for placement in general education classes upon arrival. How to Apply Applying to college when you’re overseas can be overwhelming. We’re here to help. Find our user-friendly application on the website, and follow these easy enrollment steps. www.bates.ctc.edu/International 1. Submit the International Student Application with the non-refundable $50 USD application fee ($100 for Practical Nurse). 2. Copy of passport photo page. 3. Include a passport-size color photo identification with the application. 4. Submit proof of English proficiency. 5. Submit a bank statement and the Financial Resources Information Form. 6. Complete the International Student Health Insurance Form. 7. If you are currently in active status at another U.S. school, submit the Transfer Release Form. 8. If you will be bringing a spouse or children with you, submit the Dependent Information Form. After we have reviewed your completed application, we will send you an I-20 form. Your next step is to apply for a U.S. Visa. We have prepared an application and preparation guide, which you can find on our website.
