Stand up, speak up & take action! You may think child abuse is restricted unto a specific area. It is happening in every community, rural and urban, and crosses all boundaries of economics, race, ethnic heritage and religious faith. One out of three girls and one out of five boys will be sexually abused before they reach age 18. Approximately 5 children die every day because of child abuse. Most children become victims of abuse and neglect at 18 months or younger. The typical sexual predator will assault 117 times before being caught. In most of the cases the abuser has a close relationship with the victim (parent,
caregiver, friend of the family, relative). However, abuse by strangers does occur. If you want to make a difference in a child’s life who confides in you, telling you about the abuse or you suspect that a child is being abused listen carefully to the child’s words and emotions. Suspecting abuse is enough of a reason to contact the authorities. Stand up for our children, speak up and take action against child abuse. Let they be loved and protected. Oud en jonk het saam met die groep gesing op die maat van bekende kersfeesliedere. Die kersseisoen is beslis op ‘n goeie noot ingewy. Die Amen seunsgroep van links is Frank Pannaou, Renier Bester en Bernhard Faasen.

Heidelberg (and Nigel) are small unique towns and in many ways can be seen as a family of people. Many of the folk know each other or at least about each other and while some folk struggle to put a name to a face the fact is that our towns can be seen as “family” or “homely” towns. During the past few years I have been horrified to see how many “untruths” are
published and told and also that people (including the newspapers and media) ask professionals to break a client’s confidentiality and tell them “the story” about what has happened in a person’s life. I wonder where this comes from. As professionals (here I speak for my wife Elize and myself) I find it strange that we get calls asking for conf idential information about people we see and also incidents (eg accidents) that happen in and around Heidelberg/Nigel area. We will NOT give out any form of information and we will NOT give out phone numbers of family or friends involved in the incident. The folk that come and see us do so because they feel “safe” and we will not compromise their confidentiality. If we are called out or asked to see people because they have gone through some or other trauma we will again keep this information confidential. Having said all this here is a problem that I have. The information that ultimately gets into the newspaper and media is so often (I feel that I want to say always) inaccurate and often leads to the safety and respect of the people involved being compromised and being their safety being put at jeopardy. Not only is the information inaccurate but the information shared often puts the person at risk because of the type of information shared. The question must be asked: is it all about

Surely as responsible people with the wellbeing of our towns at heart we should take time to do diligent research to make sure that what is being printed is truth. Further to this is it unfair to ask that private information that a newspaper/media plans to share about a person or incident FIRST gets cleared with the person/people involved? It is sad that we have to sometimes take time to “debrief ” people because of what is said about them or about their situation in our media. I know sensation sells a newspaper or media publication but at the same time “good” and “positive” sensation builds up our community. Let us be more positive this Christmas and in 2014.

When riding on your bicycle always make sure that you ride with someone else, riding alone could make you a target. Make sure that you have good control over your purse when going Christmas shopping. House break-ins are also on the increase. Let your neighbours know when you are going out or going away on holiday. Make sure that your animals are taken care of when you go away. Reynardt Transport has generously offered to start a neighbourhood watch. This will entail members of the community driving around and doing patrols in order to help prevent crime.

Financial decisions should be made in advance, having prayed and agreed upon it. Sound financial behavior is rooted in careful consideration of every decision so that expenses do not exceed income. Pay the full tithe FIRST (Malachi 3:8-12; Proverbs 3:9-10): Paying our full tithe first is an act of gratitude, it indicates that God takes priority over everything in our lives and that we have faith in Him as our provider and source. Tithing is an integral part of every believer’s life. Nobody can afford not to tithe. Be content (Hebrews 13:5): When we become consumed with money, we sometimes get so wrapped up in earning more that we have no time to enjoy what we have. God remains our source and therefore we can rest in the assurance of His constant provision and be content with what we have. Jesus regarded finances as a very serious matter. He taught about it extensively. Financial freedom and breakthrough can begin when we are willing to evaluate our own behavior and lives. Out-of-control f inances indicate an out-of-control lifestyle. Will you trust God, without any ‘back-up’ plans? If you do, then be done with debt!

HUISBEWONERSVERSEKERING – HUISINHOUD Huisbewonersversekering dek jou huishoudelike goedere en persoonlike besittings wat normaalweg in jou woning en buitegeboue aangetref word. Let daarop dat die goedere gewoonlik net gedek is terwyl dit binne die huis en buitegeboue gehou word. Daar kan uitsonderings wees, bv. sekere polisse sal wasgoed wat van die draad af gesteel word en tuinmeubels wat buite staan, dek, terwyl ander polisse dit nie sal dek nie. Maak dus seker wat die fynskrif in die polis is, voordat jy op dekking gaan. Items wat nie onder huisinhoud gedek word nie, is onder andere die volgende: Voertuie, watervoertuie, lugvaartuie, diere, geld, aktes, sekuriteite vir geld, obligasies, wissels, promesses, tjeks, poswissels, posorders, seëls- en muntversamelings, manuskripte, seldsame boeke, medaljes, en so meer. Hiervoor is daar ruimte om aparte, spesifieke versekering uit te neem. Ook word eiendom wat aangeskaf is met die uitsluitlike doel om dit later weer van die hand te sit, ook nie gedek nie. As jy byvoorbeeld ‘n agent vir Argilla, Tupperware, ens. is, is die voorraad wat jy in die huis aanhou, nie gedek nie en moet daar aparte versekering daarvoor uitgeneem word. Jou duur sonbril, horlosie en kamera is byvoorbeeld onder huisinhoud gedek terwyl dit in die huis is, maar as jy dit elders vergeet of verloor, sal dit nie gedek wees nie. Hiervoor word daar ook voorsiening gemaak. Vir hierdie tipe skade moet jy alle risiko-versekering uitneem. Omdat die risiko op verlies groter is wanneer die item buite die huis is, word dit dan gespesifiseer en ‘n addisionele premie word daarop betaal. Nog ‘n voorbeeld wat genoem kan word waar die skade nie gedek sal wees nie, is wanneer jou duur videokamera van R6000 (geskatte waarde) val en breek. Die meeste versekeraars sluit outomaties ‘n mate van alle risiko-dekking by hulle huisbewonersversekering in, maar die dekking wat dit bied, is egter min. Die uitbetaling op die gewone huisbewonersdekking sal maar ±R1000 (of soos die polis lees) wees, maar as die videokamera gespesifiseer was, sou die volle R6000 uitbetaal wees. Om te verseker dat die kamera vir sy volle waarde teen alle risiko‘s gedek is, moet die kamera en sy waarde in die polis gespesifiseer word. Onthou net dat daar ‘n bybetaling, deur die kliënt, op elke eis is. Maak dus seker dat jy kennis dra van wat die bybetalings op die items is, voordat jy besluit om op dekking te gaan. Mense verkeer dikwels onder die wanindruk dat hulle huisbewonersversekering beskerming teen alle moontlike gebeure verleen omdat alle risiko-versekering daarby ingesluit is. Die term is egter misleidend omdat die standaarddekking wat dit bied, maar laag is en duur items dus heeltemal onderverseker is. Daarom is dit noodsaaklik dat duur items soos kameras, horlosies, ringe, ens. in die kontrak gespesifiseer moet word. Indien dit só gespesifiseer word, sal die versekeraar die volle waarde (minus natuurlik die bybetaling) daarvan uitbetaal, selfs as jy dit verloor weg van jou huis af. Onthou ook dat selfs in die geval van alle risiko-versekering, is daar sekere omstandighede waar aanspreeklikheid uitgesluit sal word bv. die volgende oorsake van skade: · slytasie en waardevermindering; · roes, klamheid en muf; · verslegting veroorsaak deur motte of gediertes; · verlies van edelgesteentes weens foutiewe montering of die slytasie van kloutjies waarmee dit geheg is; · skade aan glasware tensy dit deur diefstal of vuur veroorsaak is. Vensters en deure keer nie hierdie kwaaddoeners nie, daar is by verskeie persele toegang deur die dak verkry. Die beeld van ‘n verdagte voertuig wat gebruik is tydens ‘n mislukte huisbraak is op CCTV kamera opgeneem terwyl die skelms sonder enige sukses probeer het om die huis te betree. Die Golf word beskryf as ‘n redelike nuwe model, swart van kleur en met “mags” wat opvallend sigbaar is. Vier van die verdagtes is na bewering op kamera vasgevang, waarvan twee blank en twee nie blank is. Hulle is uiters netjies geklee en het dasse gedra. Hierdie einste voertuig is op Woensdag 27 November weer gewaar in Ferryvale omgewing in Nigel omstreeks 09:00. Daar word beweer dat inwoners se huise, deur sakke om die bome buitekant die erf gemerk word. ‘n Inwoner van Nigel het ‘n verdagte man gewaar, waartydens die verdagte besig was om ‘n sak om die boom te bind. Die sak is onmiddelik deur die eienaar verwyder. Die kersseisoen is op hande en dis juis gedurende hierdie tydperk wat inbrake toeneem.

16 Days of Activism
The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is an international campaign. It takes place every year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). During this time, the South African Government runs a 16 Days of Activism Campaign to make people aware of the negative impact of violence on women and children and to act against abuse. Every year, government, civil-society organisations and the business sector work together to broaden the impact of the campaign. By supporting this campaign, thousands of South Africans have also helped to increase awareness of abuse and build support for victims and survivors of abuse. Nigel CPF kicked of their campaign together with six police stations namely: Duduza, Devon, Dunnottar, Kwa-Thema and Springs on Monday. They visited Jameson Park and Alra Park at respective community halls. The community supported these events and various speakers from the CPF sector gave information and guidance on the subject abuse. Together, let us take actions to support the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign.
Support the campaign by wearing the white ribbon during the 16-day period: A white ribbon is a symbol of peace and symbolises the commitment of the wearer to never commit or condone violence against women and children. Many organisations need assistance from the public. You can volunteer your time and make a contribution to the work of institutions. Help plant a garden at a shelter, sponsor plastic tables and chairs for kids at a clinic or join an organisation as a counsellor. Use your skills and knowledge to help the victims of abuse. Speak out against woman and child abuse. Encourage silent female victims to talk about abuse and ensure that they get help. Report child abuse to the police. Encourage children to report bully behaviour to school authorities. Men and boys are encouraged to talk about abuse and actively discourage abusive behaviour. Join your local community policing forums (CPFs). Die liggies betower jou as jy in die straat opgery kom. Verbygaande voertuie kan die versoeking nie weerstaan om vir ‘n wyle te vertoef nie. Hierdie Kersfees paradys is enige kind se droom. Dit is juis die effek wat Frances en Johan wil skep. Dis vir die eienaars ‘n plesier om hul kersvreugde te kan deel met ander. “Kersfees is nie net vir diegene oorsee nie, maar vir ons as SuidAfrikaners ook”, skerts Frances opgewonde. Daar was al tot ‘n troue gehou hier in haar tuin, so onder die kersfees liggies. Om al die liggies op te stel in verskillende vorms en groottes neem vir Johan 2 volle naweke. Hulle weet nie presies hoeveel die stokperdjie hul kos nie, maar dis beslis nie goedkoop nie. Daar word gereken dat die totaal van die liggies op duisende kan staan. Die afslaan gaan baie vinniger as die opslaan. Elke lid van
hulle familie is betrokke by die feestelikheid van die liggies en daar kom gereeld ‘n nuwe uitstalling op die grasperk. Hierdie jaar is ‘n ou fiets vol liggies versier. Indien julle hulle liggies skeppings wil bewonder, dit word saans vertoon vanaf 19:00 tot 21:00 en naweke skakel hulle die liggies bietjie later af. Dis nou te sê as dit nie reën nie. 4 x 4 excitement! Nigel 4x4 club hosted their annual year end function at the Fortuna resort just 25kms out of Heidelberg on the Standerton road. This event was hosted on the weekend of November 22 and the clubs year end prize giving was also held. Micheal Nel club chairman for 2014 received the Clubman of the year award. It was presented by the clubs outgoing chairman Hans Mc Callaghan and vice chairman Johan Ackerman. Cindy Van der Westhuizen earned the clubwoman trophy of the year. Armand Ackerman walked away with the driver of the year award and Len Powell received the most dedicated member award. Micheal Nel, Johan Ackerman, Cindy Van Der Westhuizen and Len Powell. Weekend activities included a spit braai supplied by Leslie Lloyd of Less Automotive Engineering in Nigel. The club wish to thank Les for preparing the lamb spit for all their members and guests for the evening. The whole weekend provided the members with a challenging 4x4 course and a scenic route to drive. Members had great fun and a lovely weekend was spent at Fortuna. Monthly meetings are held on the f irst Monday every month, 18:30 for 19:00 at the John Vorster Stadium in Nigel. For any information phone Len Powell at 083 929 8819.
