Kim Ryan Scavone enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Meredith College softball program. In just her second season at the helm, Scavone garnered the 2012 USA South Coach of the Year honors after leading her team to a 26-10 overall record. The program-best 12-6 conference mark was good for a second-place tie in regular season league standings.

She earned a bachelor of science in exercise science at ASU with a concentration in strength and conditioning. Malone earned her specialist certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association at Meredith in February 2012. In her first season Scavone helped guide the Fordham pitching staff to team records for earned run average, shutouts, and strikeouts. Pitcher Sarah Kinney earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors and followed in 2005 as the conference Pitcher of the Year. Scavone was a four-year starter at Boston College from 2000-03. As a freshman, she garnered the 2000 Big East Rookie of the Year award, while also earning First Team All-Rookie and First Team All-Big East honors. Scavone capped off her career as the Big East Pitcher of the Year in 2003 and earned First Team All-Big East honors as BC earned its first regular season title since 1998 and an NCAA Tournament berth. She received a bachelor’s in English from Boston College. In addition to coaching softball at the collegiate level, Scavone played and coached professionally overseas. In June 2012, Scavone was inducted into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame as a member of the charter class.

USA SOUTH ATHLETIC CONFERENCE The USA South Athletic Conference is home to 13 institutions, five in North Carolina, three in Virginia, two in Georgia, two in Tennessee and one in Alabama. Beginning with the 2013-14 year, Covenant and Huntingdon Colleges join Averett University, Ferrum College, Greensboro College, LaGrange College, Piedmont College, Mary Baldwin College, Maryville College, Meredith College, Methodist University, North Carolina Wesleyan College and William Peace University as full members. Agnes Scott College became a competing member of the conference in the fall of 2009 as a women’s lacrosse-only member, and Christopher Newport remains in the conference one final year as an affiliate member for football.
