Avalon Quantum English is a method for teaching people to speak English. Speaking is the main focus. It is simple, enjoyable and effective. Most schools use traditional textbooks to teach English which can result in students only talking for a few minutes in each lesson. Avalon is the only school in London where you can study AQE which was written and developed by our own academic managers and designed to quickly improve speaking and listening skills.

When students arrive at Avalon their level is assessed on what they can say and how accurately and naturally they say it. Pronunciation, stress, accent and rhythm have as great an impact on a student’s fluency in English than simply new vocabulary and grammatical structures.
n Quantum Books
n New Work and Revision
AQE books reflect what students and teachers do in the classroom. They allow students to record pronunciation, new vocabulary and grammar. The questions allow students to practise their speaking and listening and teachers can correct and help their students become more fluent from their answers.
AQE classes are divided into two 50 minute sessions. The New Work class is where the teacher prepares students to practise target vocabulary and grammar for the first time. In the Revision class, students revise and expand upon target language with greater emphasis on fluency and communicative practice.
n Progress Checks AQE students are always encouraged to think of their English in terms of their practical speaking and listening skills. We have listening progress checks after every unit and speaking checks after every two units. Remember, you can combine your AQE classes with skills and exam classes.

Our School Central location Avalon School is situated in the heart of London on Denmark Street, or ‘Tin Pan Alley’, famous for its musical history and former rock star tenants. Elton John, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Sex Pistols all lived or worked on the street and it is still home to guitar shops, music venues and recording studios.

Accommodation Student Shared Houses Student shared houses offer the opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the world who are learning English. This type of accommodation allows you to live freely and independently while experiencing life in London. Student shared houses are suitable for both long and short-term stays. This accommodation is ideal for students who want to share accommodation with fewer students than residences.
Student Residence Many students who prefer a more independent approach choose to stay at a student residence. There is a good range of all-year and summer only residences available all of which are within easy reach of the school. Depending on the residence you may choose either a single room or, if you are coming with a friend, a twin room. Some of the residences offer breakfast and evening meal and others are self-catering.
Homestay
Avalon recognises that finding accommodation in London can be difficult, especially if you can’t speak the language. Avalon has an accommodation officer who can arrange accommodation for students with host families or on a self-catering basis. Living with a host family is a great way to improve your English outside the classroom, learn about British culture and get to know the city.

In a homestay you can experience life with a British family and practise your English with your hosts in a natural setting. Your host are often working families or retired people. You stay in a friendly London home and choose the meal plan that suits you (half board or self catering) but you are still independent and you are not expected to take part in family life.

Flexible dates Timetable
FAQs
Avalon offers a flexible timetable of English language classes from Monday to Friday. Students can choose how many lessons they study per week, from a minimum of five lessons a week. They can also change onto exam preparation courses when their English reaches the right level, at no extra charge.

What time will I study?
Yes, all Avalon teachers are native English speakers with certificate level teaching qualifications.
Students on Quantum Plus courses may study at any time from 9:30-6:20. On Quantum Standard courses classes are available from 3:30-6.20.
How many students are there in a class?
Do I need a course book?
The maximum is 12 students in a speaking class and 15 in general skills, exam preparation and Business English classes.
Yes, you will need to buy the course books. For speaking classes, you can buy a Quantum book from reception for £20. For other classes your teacher will show you which book to buy.
How many lessons can I study? You can study for as many lessons as you choose, between 5 and 25 a week. If you require a Tier 4 visa you must study a minimum of 20 lessons per week, Monday to Friday, before 6pm.
What will happen on my first day?

Frequently Asked Questions
Our reception staff will provide information about the school. You will have a short speaking test and will be given a written level test. Please bring your passport or equivalent identification as we are required to take a copy when you arrive. You will be given a timetable with your classroom numbers and yourTOEIC Avalon Quantum course book.
Will I get a certificate? Yes, all students who successfully complete their course can request a progress letter and a certificate.
Our school is located near several large book shops. Course books generally cost between £12 and £25 depending on the course.
Can I change my classes? Yes, we have a selection of classes at each hour and you may switch from speaking classes to exam preparation or Business English, depending on your level and availability.
Can you arrange my accommodation? We can arrange a homestay (staying with a family in their home), a room in residence accommodation or student shared housing. All accommodation must be pre-paid and cancellation fees apply. Avalon has an Accommodation Officer who will arrange your booking and is available to talk to during your stay.
