WHERE I’M FROM SHAKINAH KELLEY JACKSON MIDDLE SCHOOL I’m from a home with only a few people, but we’re very tight. From a home whose doors are always open to those in need.

I’m from a family with high hops for the future – a family who would do anything to help you.

I’m from my friends who are wild and crazy‐ friends who love to gossip and spread the word.

I’m from a church family who should very well be called my immediate family. I’m from two pastors as parents, everywhere I go, I hear, “Be careful because people are always watching you.”

I’m from music, mainly Christian rap with Cantton Jones, Da’ Truth, P‐Dube, etc. From clapping my hands and nodding my head.

I’m from a school where my teachers are pretty much my parents. A school where anything lower than a “C” would be unacceptable.

I’m from grandparents raising me ever since I was a little baby – from them and my parents teaching me the morals of life.

I’m from the beach, where the hot sun beats down on you as you smell the fresh saltwater enter your nostrils. 163
