▲D ec. 6: Christmas Tree Lighting Historic Downtown Alpharetta, Milton Square City Park, Alpharetta, Ga. 30004 All the magic of Christmas glistens at the annual lighting of the 45-foot live spruce tree with 10,000 white lights and 3,000 people. Beginning at 5 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children in the gazebo. Mayor David Belle Isle will read the children’s classic book “’Twas

the Night Before Christmas.” The tree and downtown will come aglow at 6:15 p.m. Pre-lighting entertainment will consist of train rides, holiday crafts, face painting and strolling elves creating free balloon sculptures. Surrounding shops and restaurants will also feature holiday activities. This celebration began in 1977 with about 100 people gathered around a 6-foot live blue spruce tree. Just before the clock strikes midnight, the 800-pound peach begins its descent. Ring in 2014 at the 25th annual Peach Drop, the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in the Southeast. More than 100,000 spectators watched the iconic peach make its descent last year, and this year there’s even more to love. Head down to Underground Atlanta for a day that will be jampacked with activities leading up to the main event, including children’s games, a sports zone and dozens of talented musicians.
