Oyster Festival of Foods Fun, Family Entertainment
uring the weekend of October 15 and 16, grab your kids, family and friends and head to Oyster Bay by train, boat or car for the 28th Annual Oyster Festival! It will be “the” place to be for incredible eats, fantastic musical performances, beautiful handmade products, majestic tall ships – the American Privateer the Lynx, the renowned John J. Harvey 9/11 fireboat, the Coast Guard cutter Bollard, the oyster sloop Christeen; “shiver me timbers” pirates and the best “oysters”, of course! Organized by The Oyster Bay Rotary Club and members of the Oyster Bay Charitable Fund, the profits from food sales support over 25 local charities while proceeds from the rides and merchandise sales will be donated to charities the Rotary supports throughout the year.

The Food Court booths sport signs advertising their specialty foods. In this case, the pizza and curly fries are served up by the Oyster Bay Cooperative Preschool.
Admission is free. Parking is (mostly) free. Local schools charge for use of their lots to support the PTA. Most activities

Oysters, of course, take center stage and are available on the half shell, fried, or made into a hearty stew- with the mollusks all generously donated by Frank M. Flowers. Other delectable seafood choices include a full lobster dinner, Mussels Au Vin Blanc, soft shell crabs, lobster rolls, crab rolls, and much more. For the land lovers there are many culinary options as well, including chicken wings in 31 different varieties, pulled pork sandwiches, sausage and peppers, steak sandwiches, Texas chili, and, of course, other traditional festival fare – including ethnic food. Each year festival attendees discover that the Food Court is not just the heart of the festival, it is the soul. It is an incredible means of raising funds for the 25+ local charities that participate. The food booths are staffed with charity employees and volunteers as well as members of the restaurant or catering company they partner with. “Our sports programs will be the major beneficiary of the money raised during the Oyster
Festival,” said Kevin J. McLaughlin, of the Saint Dominic C.Y.O. “The funds raised give us a chance to offset the fees charged to parents and to keep those fees for various sports programs that we offer reasonable and lower than it could be otherwise.” Don’t forget to visit the Whole Foods Market tent to cast your vote for the Best of the Food Court contest! What to do? Visit your favorite food vendor, pick up an entry blank and after filling it out, please deposit it at the Whole Foods tent. Oyster Festival Raffle Tickets
he Rotary Club raffle ticket booth is easy to spot at the entrance to the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park. Buy a ticket to win a 3-year lease on a 2011 Audi A4; or a Center Console Boat; or $15,000 in cash. Only 3,000 tickets will be sold at $20 each or six for $100. Proceeds from the raffle go towards Rotary programs and projects. The drawing will take place on Sunday, Oct. 16 as the festival closes, at 6 p.m. You don’t have to be there to win.

Multi-Sport Clinic - (morning session, ages 4-9) keep your kids active with an action packed morning of sport related games and fun activities, which include gaga ball, Wiffle ball, dodge ball, kickball, soccer, relay games etc. Fee $49/session or $200/week for early registration Baseball and Softball Clinic - (morning session, ages 6-9) consists of hitting drills, live batting practice, tee work, soft toss, throwing drills for developing accuracy and speed, teaching proper mechanics to pitchers and catchers, and finally reviewing important skills for competitive baseball.
