Welcome to our 2nd Annual Fall Bull & Female Sale. Like we all know, living in the western provinces we never know what to expect as “normal” weather. A lot of us started off with a real mucky spring in southern Alberta from some winter moisture. Then it dried up and like we all know, it forgot to rain. I recall telling Chuck one morning in late July we finally had our first puddle this year from rain. But thankfully with some late summer rains it created some feed as well as some great fall/winter grazing. And it sure appears to have taken a lot of pressure off the feed market. On offer this fall, we are bringing 60 bulls, 75 top 66 Ranch commercial heifers, 25 registered heifers, selling as commercials which were all A.I.’ed. And for a first time ever offered, 50 front end 2nd calvers right from the top of our herd. The bulls on offer are from our April/May calving program. We retained a couple complete sire groups from our spring bull sale to have a front end set of bulls for our fall bull sale. We also decided after backing our calving off another 10 days, we are offering a few calves from the month of May. Once again for our spring bull sale, we will offer 2 year old bulls not picked over. Our 2 year olds in the spring will all be selected from all our cows calving from May 10th and on, still continuing to have a complete 2 year old program. The heifers on offer, if you are not familiar with our program, are all bred to calve on their own. We believe that, and do, run our heifers like cows. They are run out in the open in the same manner as our whole cow herd is. All heifers were exposed July 10th. The second calvers on offer are right from the top end of our herd. We chose to bring these girls to town only because they had to get bred a little earlier than our normal program. On June 25th the bulls were exposed on these second calvers. Whether you purchase a bull or some females or just come to view our cattle for the first time. NEWELL VETERINARY CLINIC The bulls offered for sale by 66 Ranch have all passed a breeding soundness examination and are classified as satisfactory potential breeders. They have also been vaccinated with Fusogard to prevent footrot. The second calvers and heifers have all been examined to confirm pregnancy. An A.I. heifer bull we used from Cole Creek bloodlines. Extreme docility with a very moderate birth weight and has excellent performance. We are very pleased with the growth of these cattle after they were weaned, competing very well with all the other performance sires. Once again, going back to Cedar Ridge these cattle are displaying that natural ease of flesh. The real “cow mans” kind of cattle!

An A.I sire we are still really excited about. We had calf heifers calving this spring off Thunder and are really impressed with the thick, deep females he has sired. Real Angus looking cattle. All reports are the udders are near perfect. The bull calves sired by Thunder definitely have that “extra rib.” Super long, deep sided cattle. He sure puts the hip on his calves and yet maintains that calving ease we are all looking for. Appears to be that all around perfect bull!

Plain and simple, 17Z has it all. Performance, ease of flesh, leg structure, super foot, free moving, maternal. 4 sons sell We feel we have lucked out and finally raised one that can compete with any A.I sire. His heifer calves are extremely feminine and by far the top end of the pen. Super performance of 681lbs actual avg. on 22 bull calves and 604lbs actual avg. on 14 heifer calves weaned off the cow on prairie grass the 1st week of November. Very moderate birth weights of 88lbs avg. on the bull calves and 78lbs avg. on the heifer calves. We find it much easier to have confidence in A.I.’ing to a bull that you know exactly what his sire is and as well his dam. Because they both came from your program. Expect to see more 17Z calves in the future!
