I first heard of the lizard from Martha Beck in her book Steering By Starlight. The lizard or lizard brain is in reference to the oldest and smallest area of our brain otherwise known as the amygdala. It evolved hundreds of millions of years ago and resembles the brain of present-day reptiles. For this reason, it is often called the reptilian brain. If you ever want to find your purpose, follow your passion, live out loud, be comfortable enough to take some risks or stop working a job you hate, you are going to have to get control of the lizard.
