This issue the spotlight is on Texas cowboy Rex Samford. Rex is from the town of Eula where he lives there with his parents Monty and Janet, and brother Riley. Rex has bulls on his mind, and can’t wait to graduate. He doesn’t have a lot of time for extra-curricular activities, because the bulls keep most of his attention. When he isn’t dealing with bulls, he likes to hang out and have a good time with his friends. Rex’s dad has been extremely involved in the bucking bull industry for many years. If anyone knows a lot about the bull business they are sure to know Monty Samford and the elite breeding program he runs. Some of his most wellknown bloodlines are bloodlines are Houdini, C2 and Party Time. The Samfords have many great bulls, which have been seen on The Built Ford Tough Series, and have gone to the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas. Some of the outstanding bulls that the Samfords have raised are Night Life, Bring It, Wild Life, Handsome Jack and What I Say. With the help and experience Rex has gotten growing up in the midst of such deep genetics, he is sure to have a superior breeding program of his own one day. He has had a lot of hands-on experience feeding and working his and his dad’s bulls daily. Rex also has a few cows of his own, and plans to make a start on getting his own set of bulls soon. He has already made a name for himself in the bull business through the ABBI Junior Futurity Series. Rex has been a member of the ABBI for two years, and has taken most of the limelight in the Junior Futurities. In 2009 he had two calves, both out of Party Time, that won him first place in two events and second in the third one. In 2010, he chose two calves out of C2 Get Ya Some, that brought home first place as well in two events. Overall, in the Junior Futurities Rex has won about $35,000, and also a lot of respect from the other Junior Breeders who look up to him. With some of his money won, he bought a new truck, and is planning on saving the rest, “Just to have.” Rex’s plans in the next couple of years involve him getting a job hauling bulls for somebody, because that is what he enjoys most. The trips all over and getting to work with bulls is what he really likes. Good luck to you, Rex!
