s a student, Bill Roberts ’64 spent most of his classroom time in Shaw Hall, which was first opened in 1954. As a member of the Board of Trustees, Bill knows the building hasn’t gotten any better in its nearly 60-year history. “I applauded the University’s decision to launch plans for a new classroom facility,” Bill says. “Carole and I are also aware of President Dick Wilson’s guiding principle that we don’t undertake a building project until we have the money or commitments in hand and we wanted to do our part move this important and timely project forward.” This is not the first time Bill and Carole have stepped forward to support Illinois Wesleyan and it likely won’t be the last. Bill, the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus, is managing partner of the law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson and has served as a U.S. Attorney and chief legal counsel for Illinois Governor Jim Edgar.

part of Illinois Wesleyan building projects since the early 1960’s, when its IAA parent relocated its headquarters from Chicago to Bloomington and built two temporary buildings on campus property. “We share some common values with Illinois Wesleyan and have for many years,” said Chairman and CEO Kurt Bock, whose mother, brother and sister attended Wesleyan. “We both want to deliver value to our customers and provide the highest quality product and services. Partnering with Wesleyan over many years has proven to be mutually beneficial and those are the best kind of relationships.” In addition to facilities projects, COUNTRY has been a generous provider of scholarship funds and internship opportunities to Wesleyan students. The company’s support of Illinois Wesleyan over the years underscores the benefits of building relationships as well as facilities. Today there are about 115 Illinois Wesleyan graduates and 30 student interns helping to build the COUNTRY Financial brand.
