on Terminator: Salvation has at last put him in the good books of action movie fans. So expectations are now high for his upcoming movie 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo. It will be interesting to see a modern take on Jules Verne’s classic. P Twilight has proven a huge hit both as a book and as a novel. Fans will be pleased to hear that the sequelNew Moon - is being pushed through development quickly with a US release date of this November! The main cast will return, which will mean more screen time for Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black. Child star Dakota fanning will also have a role. P Nicolas Cage is being joined by Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up) and Teresa Palmer (Bedtime Stories) for Disney’s live action movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Inspired by Disney’s renowned 1940 animation Fantasia, Cage plays the role of a modern day sorcerer, training a new apprentice. Jon Turteltaub (who directed Cage in National Treasure) is in charge. P Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso is apparently a fan of fairy tales as he’s set to helm a reworking of panto favourite Jack and the Beanstalk. It’ll have a slight twist to it though as it’s based partly on the classic tale and also on a less well known fable from the south west of England. Hopefully Jack The Giant Killer will prove fun family entertainment.
P Fans of TRON, the cult sci-fi classic from 1982, will be pleased to hear that the sequel - probably also titled TRON - is moving ahead at speed. Exact details of the script are still sketchy although it seems that Garret Hedlund (Four Brothers, Troy) stars as a computer programmer following in the virtual footsteps of the original movie’s Flynn - played by Jeff Bridges. Bridges will be reprising his character in the new movie. P When it comes to macho action, few come close to Sylvester Stallone. And with his recent revivals of Rocky and Rambo, he’s proved he can still flex biceps with the best of them. So brace yourself for The Expendables a movie about a group of mercenaries going into South America to overthrow a dictator. Written, directed and starring Stallone, it also stars plenty of Hollywood’s top action heroes, including Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren. And a guest appearance by Arnold Schwarzenegger! P After the financial and critical sucess of Iron Man, a sequel was a certainty. Plot details are being very closely guarded for now, but hero lead Robert Downey Jr will face off against Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson. If it can balance fun and action as well as the first movie, it will be another sure fire hit. P Director McG hardly wowed the movie-going world with his two Charlie’s Angels movies, but his work
