Courtney Arrington, the senior class president, led the pledge of allegiance to the flag, which had been carried onto the football field by U.S. Marines. The singing of the national anthem followed, led by the school choir under the direction of Patrick Maier. Senior Kahdijah Ali welcomed the gathering of students, parents, relatives and friends and gave a speech entitled “God’s Gift.” The speeches that followed were, respectively, “Lift-off 2010!” by Maya Lozinski, “To Underclassmen, Love Senior,” by Deonte McCall Jr., “Greatness: Starting From the Kitchen Sink,” by Ms. Arrington, and “A Note on Growing Up,” by Josh Hubert. After a recognition of foreign exchange students, the assembly heard remarks by Principal Matthew Zito, who then presented the class to Don Gibson, a board member of the Sequoia Union High School District, and assistant superintendent and soon-to-be superintendent James Lianides. M-A staff chosen by the Class of 2010 handed diplomas to graduates as their names were called. With that, and with mortarboard tassels adjusted to reflect the seniors’ new status, the event drew to a close. Graduates A Joanna Acosta, Zachariah O.
