Banamine Paste Preventing Horse from Musculoskeletal Disorder PRODUCT INFO Banamine Paste, manufactured by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, is used to alleviate inflammatory pain due to musculoskeletal disorders in horses. WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES Banamine paste is used to treat musculoskeletal disorder pain and inflammation. PET SYMPTOMS The limbs of a horse are able to move through contractions and relaxations of the muscles against bone. These muscles are composed of thousands of fibers which are stimulated through nerves responses from the central nervous system. In some horses, disorders of the musculoskeletal system prevent the naturally occurring movements. A myopathy is a muscular disease in which the muscle fibers do not function for whatever reason. Common symptoms of the myopathy include; muscle weakness, cramps, stiffness, and spasms. The condition is incurable however through support of drug therapy, physical therapy, support devises, surgery, and massage, the condition can be treated to provide comfort. Myopathy can be caused by birth defects, poor nutrition, vascular or blood disorders, infectious disease, metabolic disorders, hormone abnormalities, body toxins, neurological problems, or disease of the muscles.

PET AILMENTS Pet aliments of the myopathy include; muscle weakness, cramps, stiffness, and spasms. Aliments associated with fever include elevated heat levels, sweating, and elevated thirst.

Although commonly affecting heavier horses, this condition also can affect light draft horses, draft mules, the American quarter horse, the thoroughbred, Arab, and the Standardbred horse. Patients with heart conditions, pregnant, or lactating. 3. Will this product interact with other medications? Patients should not take NSAIDs while on this product. 4. Will this product cure my horse? No. Banamine is used to simply manage the condition. 5. Aside from using Banamine, what other actions could I take to reduce pain for my horse? Therapy is a great way to not only reduce pain but to relieve stiffness. Speak with your veterinarian about possible therapy options for your horse. 6. What happens if I miss a dose? Administer dose as soon as you remember, however don’t give two doses in one day. 7. What happens if I over dose my horse? Over dose reactions are rare. In case of accidental over dose seek emergency attention. How it Works The fever-reducing, anti-inflammatory, non-steroidal ingredients of Banamine, stimulates pain receptors and the cells they produce known as prostaglandins. As these prostaglandins are stimulated the muscle pain is relieved and returns to a normal state.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Equine: Setting the syringe: Unlock plunger by turning locking ring ½ turn. Slide ring down. After matching horse weight to appropriate dosage, turn grooved ring down to the appropriate notch. Remove cap and place syringe into the corner of the horse’s mouth. Inject medication.
