STYLE GUIDE FALL 2013
A SEASON OF CHANGE Dear Allen Edmonds Community, Once again I am very pleased to present this Fall Supplemental catalog featuring shoes and belts that were added to our line after the 2013 Annual catalog was published back in February. These new Fall styles range from the incredibly light weight Voyager walking shoe to the beautiful Strand in brogue suede to the sophisticated Shaker Heights boot with tweed uppers. I am also very excited to show off our new brand identity. When I began at Allen Edmonds in 2008, I believed we were not firm enough with our Made in America positioning. So, we came up with The Great American Shoe Company tag often displayed proudly with our company name. This has served us very well for the past five years, especially during the difficult Recession when consumers supported American-made products. As we move forward with our company vision to evolve into a men’s lifestyle brand, it was a good time to revisit our brand identity to better reflect this company evolution. So, we’re introducing the new crest with the cobbler’s hammer surrounded by 1922. The year 1922 acknowledges our authentic heritage. Our company survived and thrived through the Great Depression, World War II, the go-go 90’s, the dot com craze, grunge looks and most recently the
Recession. Our storied history reveals a truly American brand that has succeeded through the passion and dedication of our people. The cobbler’s hammer references our unwavering commitment to excellent craftsmanship and celebrates our core identity as world-class shoemakers. Placed dominantly in the center of the crest, the hammer signifies that shoes are Allen Edmonds’ DNA and will always be our primary focus. The shield speaks to the sense of loyalty and dedication we have toward our customers and our craft, and it serves as a link to cobbler guilds and the golden age of manufacturing. Together, these three elements embody the confidence that comes from well-made products, designed, built and sold by trusted hands. The tagline “An American Original” is a reflection of both our company and our loyal customers who think of themselves as originals in the way they dress and lead in their careers. You can expect to see a lot more use of the identity in everything we do; from shoe boxes to shoe bags, from digital communication to traditional marketing. The transition commences with this Supplemental Catalog and the transition will continue throughout the year’s end.
