Lucerne can help build dairy farm resilience

Lucerne could have a key role in helping to future-proof many UK dairy farms, such is its potential as a source of homegrown protein and quality fibre This is the view of Germinal GB’s National Agricultural Sales Manager Ben Wixey, who sees the crop as being massively underutilised in the UK despite the availability of semi-dormant varieties well-suited to the climate. “Lucerne is the world’s most extensively grown forage crop and is popular in countries with similar conditions to our own, such as Germany, and yet it is only grown on a tiny proportion of UK farms,” he said, speaking at a training day for the agricultural trade in Shropshire. “It requires free-draining soils and a soil pH of at least 6.2, but in these

4 | AgriNews

circumstances and with the right management it can yield 10–15 tonnes of dry matter that is high in protein, rich in trace minerals and is an excellent source of quality fibre. It is an ideal complement to maize silage in dairy rations and – being a legume that will fix its own nitrogen – can be grown without the cost of artificial nitrogen fertiliser.” Mr Wixey believes lucerne, which is typically spring-sown from the end of April, could become part of many farms’ forage armoury to help build more resilient businesses in the future. “Maximising the amount of

quality forage that is grown on the farm is the best way to futureproof your business,” he added. “Lucerne could have a part to play in this, especially as a source of protein that reduces reliance on bought-in alternatives, such as soya, which will always be at risk of price volatility.” When selecting lucerne for UK conditions, Mr Wixey advised farmers to aim for varieties with dormancy ratings of between 4 and 5, and good resistance to common diseases such as verticillium wilt. He also recommended the use of preinoculated pelleted seed that was certified ‘dodder-free’.

Vital knowledge exchange opportunity at Grassland UK

Farmers could get a huge amount more productions from their grass - and Grassland UK can show them how Farmers could get a huge amount more production from their grass – and Grassland UK can show them how. “Production from forage is not rising in the UK,” says Biotal’s Roy Eastlake, who will be speaking in the technical seminar programme. “Last year farmers averaged energy levels of 10.8MJ/kg DM in their grass silage and they could be getting so much more.” With this in mind, Mr Eastlake will be detailing how to achieve high quality silage by taking multiple cuts at shorter intervals. “Typically there would be five to six week between first and second cuts, but with this the aim is for around four weeks which will achieve similar yields,” he explains. “The challenge is for growers to achieve energy densities of 11.5MJ/kg DM– it can be done.” It’s been a difficult spring for livestock producers, many of whom are facing a shortage in forage. According to DLF’s Chris Gamble, shortterm solutions may include reseeding, overseeding, or growing an arable silage crop undersown with grass. However, selecting the right grass variety is an important part of any grazing system and Bill Reilly at Germinal will be going through which varieties are best suited to producing

6 | AgriNews

the best quality forage. “You want good quality cultivars in the ground, so that swards last. And they need to be managed correctly to achieve the optimal output, whether that’s for meat or milk.” There’s a lot of talk about improving soils at both farm and government level – and doing so will improve forage quality and quantity, while offering environmental benefits and protection against extreme weather events. Topics being covered in the seminar programme include managing soil for good structure, new water regulations, and the benefits of grass leys for arable and mixed farms. In addition, farmers can hear new thoughts on clamp design and catch up with the latest scientific understanding of grass and animal nutrition, beyond the usual NPK. With emphasis on cutting bagged fertiliser use to minimise costs, John Williams at ADAS will be discussing effective management of organic nutrients and manures. “It’s about maximising their value to the farm,” he says. “There’s not a farmer in the country who would put fertiliser in the spreader without knowing its nutrient values, so it should be the same for organic manures.” He suggests sampling manures and tailoring application timings to maximise efficiencies and minimise losses.

When it comes to business resilience and compliance, Piers Badnell at LIC wants farmers to look at costs a little differently. “People hear that they need to cut costs all the time, which is a bit stale. So it’s about looking at what are costs and what are investments,” he explains. “A key one is labour, which I would suggest is an investment. If you treat it as a cost you may find that getting suitable labour is difficult – but investing extra money in the right person can be good for your business down the line. It’s about looking at the word cost in a different way.” Attendance at Grassland UK seminars will attract 2 BASIS CPD points for those who register. The register will be located in the seminars marquee in the trade stand field. Grassland UK 2018 takes place on Bridge Farm & Bagborough Farm, adjacent to the Bath & West Showground on Thursday 10 May from 9am to 4pm. Tickets cost £17 (£15 for students) in advance or £20 on the gate. For more information and to book tickets head to www.bathandwest.com.

Here goes a tractor, it’s a Zetor... And it goes to Techagro!

The second week in April is highlighted in diaries of probably all farmers and fans of farming machinery Two years have passed and Brno again hosts TECHAGRO – the biggest farming show in both the Czech Republic and Central Europe. On more than 70,000 sq. m., several hundreds of exhibitors will attempt to attract over 100,000 visitors and convince them that their offer is the best for their needs. And ZETOR will be again there! “Over 70 years, we have been part of the world of farming making work easier for our customers. Our aim is to constantly update and extend our product offer and improve quality and availability of services. TECHAGRO is an ideal opportunity for us to present our innovations for 2018,” says Marián Lipovský, Managing Director, ZETOR TRACTORS a.s. 20180301_Techagro 1 ZETOR will be presenting the innovated model range MAJOR in the new design in Pavilion P, booth 010. The attractive look of the tractor draws on the concept which was designed in cooperation with Pininfarina, the world-famous Italian design studio. The new face of MAJOR tractors, which shall be launched in the summer of 2018, is characteristic in strong shapes stressing the dynamics and strength of the tractor and expressing emotions and energy. Even with all that, the tractor still keeps its usefulness and practicality of a working tool.

12 | AgriNews

The new location of front lamps makes it possible to illuminate larger space in front of the tractor, the tilted bonnet ensures better visibility of the working area around the tractor as well as a better view for the operator while working with loader. The new UTILIX and HORTUS tractors will have its Czech premiere at TECHAGRO. The tractors with the power from 40 to 70 HP have been an extension to the offer of ZETOR tractors since late last year. Due to their universality, the can be used for farming, in road maintenance, cultivation, gardening, and hobby farming. “On average, the market share of this segment reaches up to 20 % of total sales in Europe. Therefore, we have launched the two new tractor models in four specifications,” says Marián Lipovský. The UTILIX range is made up of UTILIX HT 45 and UTILIX HT 55 models; the HORTUS range contains HORTUS CL 65 and HORTUS HS 65. The tractors are powerful, easy to control and simple for maintenance. The new tractors will be available to customers all around the world late in the first quarter of the year. They are ideal for working with a front loader. For this reason, at TECHAGRO, ZETOR is going to present the extended ZETOR SYSTEM offer which includes front loader.

Further, the visitors will be able to see the new generation of tractors of the PROXIMA and FORTERRA model ranges. The tractors are equipped with more effective braking systems, employing a number of safety features. Newly, the tractors feature more pressurized cabins which prevent pieces of dirt from getting inside. Unification of control features and control panels in terms of color as well as a new dashboard with advanced functions make the work of the operator easier. Moreover, FORTERRA HSX and HD are also equipped with ECO transmission which keeps the tractor in optimum revolutions both during fieldwork and in transport. This saves operation costs by up to 20 % depending on the performed activity. “This year is the 20th anniversary of launching FORTERRA tractors. The model range is appreciated both by customers and professionals. In 2017, a professional jury composed of 23 journalists of prestigious European farming magazines included FORTERRA HD among seven best tractors in Europe. The tractor is popular mainly for its strength, robustness, and durability. The farmers like the tractor as it is able to do the hard work, including activities which are usually done by more powerful tractors. In their history, the tractors made their way to more than 21,000 users in 55 countries of the world,” says Marián Lipovský.

Best practice forage quality clinic at Grassland UK

Kuhn Farm Machinery will be hosting a forage quality clinic at this year’s Grassland UK event, Shepton Mallet, 10th May 2018

KUHN Farm Machinery will be hosting a forage quality clinic at this year’s Grassland UK event (Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, 10th May) to help farmers improve the quality of, and get the most from, their baled forage. The best practice workshop will focus on the importance of bale structure and consistency, film application, elasticity and cling characteristics, and will provide a detailed explanation of KUHN’s unique and patented film binding system. “Unlike other film binding systems which use wide mantle film for binding, the KUHN system uses two standard 750mm stretch film rolls to fully encapsulate the bale,” explains KUHN product specialist, Katie Calcutt. “This not only eliminates the need for an initial layer of netting to be placed around the cylindrical side of the

14 | AgriNews

bale, but also improves silage preservation and makes the recycling of waste plastic easier. It also reduces plastic usage by up to 30% by pre-stretching the wrapping film by 70% prior to application. Film loading is also quicker and easier as each roll weighs just 27kg, compared to the wider rolls which can weigh between 40-90kg.” The clinic will also discuss the importance of cutting crops at the correct growth stage, assessment of dry matter content prior to baling, the correct techniques for handling and storing film rolls, machinery maintenance and wrapper calibration for optimum film coverage. MERGE MAXX 950: high output belt merger KUHN will also be using the Grassland UK event to promote its new belt merger grass rake: aimed at large-scale grassland

farms and contractors, the MERGE MAXX 950 uses two adjustable, bi-directional merger belts to give a maximum grass pick-up width of 9.50 metres. The bi-directional design of the MERGE MAXX 950’s twin belts provides multiple windrow delivery options: forage can be delivered into a single central windrow, a single lateral windrow (left or right side), two lateral windrows (one either side) or a central and left or right lateral windrow. The MERGE MAXX uses autoregulating pick-up rollers which self-adjust according to crop thickness to produce a uniform, airy and faster-drying windrow. Compared to a conventional grass rake, the MERGE MAXX 950 offers a 30-100% increase in working rate, with the greatest time savings to be made when handling wet or heavier forage crops.

High capacity trailed bale wrapped at Royal Welsh Grassland

Kuhn Farm Machinery will be demonstrating its high capacity round bale wrapper, the RW 1810 at the Royal Welsh, Powys on 16th May KUHN Farm Machinery will be demonstrating its high capacity round bale wrapper, the RW 1810, at the Royal Welsh Grassland event at Four Crosses, Powys, on 16th May. With a 30% faster cycle time compared to the previous RW 1800 round bale wrappers, plus features which include KUHN’s AUTOLOAD capability, INTELLIWRAP system and optional 3D wrapping, the new RW 1810 can wrap up to 100 bales per hour with six layers of film on a 1.25m bale. Two high speed satellite wrapping arms rotate at up to 40 rpm during wrapping (when driving at 5 kmh or faster) and apply 70% pre-stretch to the film as standard to produce a tightly bound bale. The amount of pre-stretch can also be reduced to 60% where necessary and the wrapper can be set to automatically stop or operate at half speed if one of the film rolls tears or runs out. KUHN’s AUTOLOAD facility enables the new machine to quickly, gently and automatically load, wrap and unload round bales of up to 1,400kg in weight and up to 160cm in diameter without any operator input and without the need for the tractor and baler to come to a standstill. Southam Agricultural Fields Farm, Station Road Southam, Warwickshire CV47 2DH t: 01926 813 426 www.southamagri.co.uk

This not only increases overall capacity, but also reduces fuel consumption and prevents operator fatigue. The RW 1810 is an inline baler wrapper so can be operated behind a tractor or directly behind a baler. Film application is controlled by KUHN’s INTELLIWRAP system which allows the operator to select even and odd numbers of film layers to be applied by adjusting the film overlap to match crop quality and storage periods. KUHN’s optional 3D wrapping system, which uses pivoting pre-stretchers, can also be specified: this system packs a tighter bale by removing more air and ensures the edges of the bale are better protected by creating a 20cm overlap across this vulnerable zone. It also prevents rigid grass stems from puncturing the first layers of film by applying the film in the same direction that the bale is turning on the wrapping table. The RW 1810 will be in action at the Royal Welsh Grassland

Event alongside a wide variety of KUHN mowers, mower conditioners, tedders, rakes, balers and balerwrapper combinations.

KUHN’s commitment is to make a DIFFERENCE for you. Through the performance and quality of products and services We ensure the quality of each product delivered to the farmer : rigorous choice of materials and components, continuous improvement of our organisation, quality control of machinery before dispatch, process management, a controlled service level. With its reliable, quality products and services, KUHN’s reputation is not due to chance. We work at it daily. Through the power of innovation and creativity Listening to the demands of farmers is the driving force of innovation at KUHN. We make modern technology available to farmers. We measure customer satisfaction by strict criteria. The same principles of quality and satisfaction apply to our products supplied world-wide. Through putting the customer at the centre Because farming evolves, is more professional, it requires new functions of its machinery. The farming community demands that we include criteria on reliability, value for money and commitment to sustainable agriculture in the specifications of new machines.

The company also further expanded its already solid business in the United Kingdom. As expected, demand was challenging on the French market, where investment was subdued as a result of disappointing harvests and prices. Sales developed positively across all product groups. Growth was particularly strong in the plough and compact disc harrow segments. However, sales of seed drills, cultivators and field sprayers were just as successful.

LEMKEN employed a total of 1470 staff at the end of the year. This new record shows clearly how staff numbers have increased continually from one year to the next. Managing Director Anthony van der Ley is satisfied with the results: “We are very happy that the economy has picked up again. Due to our employees’ outstanding commitment, we were able to produce considerably more machines than planned. We are also grateful to our partners among specialist dealers, who provided us with optimal support in sales and service.” Highly skilled employees are essential for manufacturers of sophisticated implement technology. In this context, throughout the past year LEMKEN provided intensive practical training to almost 4000 colleagues from among dealers as well as internal sales and service staff at the AgroFarm, the company’s very own training centre. The company, an agricultural technology specialist, has also created additional positions and structures to make the renowned LEMKEN service even better and provide even more intensive support to farmers and specialist dealers. Also, the family business made investments totalling almost EUR7 million in 2017. After substantial extension works (spending a total of almost EUR60 million over the

past three years) last year’s investments mainly concerned new machinery and tools. Further large projects aimed at optimising production processes and thus quality and reliability are planned for 2018. Efficiency will be boosted even further in view of growing sales, and the company will focus on modern manufacturing technology and improved crossdepartmental cooperation in this context. An additional 60 new positions will also be created at the Alpen manufacturing site, given the extensive utilisation of its capacities. The outlook for 2018 is positive, as the excellent level of incoming orders at the beginning of the year indicates that this will be another year of positive growth. There continues to be enormous demand for modern agricultural technology in Eastern Europe, above all Russia. LEMKEN is therefore examining the possibility of manufacturing in the country to be able to serve this market better and more easily. Growth is also expected for the remaining regions, Germany and Central Europe. It is additionally anticipated that the French market will improve again for the first time in some years. The new products offered on the market in 2018 are the Azurit precision seed drill, the four-beam Karat 12 cultivator, the Primus and Albatros field sprayers with Face Lift and the CCI 1200 ISOBUS terminal.

Five new additions to Claas range on display at Grassland events Claas will have a total of five new additions from their extensive green harvest, handling ranges on display and working CLAAS will have a total of five new additions from their extensive green harvest, tractor and material handling ranges on display and working at this year’s Grassland UK and the FTMTA Grassland & Muck event in Ireland. New at this year’s Grassland will be: The JAGUAR 970 (Type 498) with PICK UP 300 TORION 1812 wheel loader VOLTO 55 tedder AXION 900 (Tier 4F) ARION 600 (Tier 4F) New 775hp JAGUAR The JAGUAR forage harvester always attracts a large crowd when working at grassland demonstrations and visitors to this year’s event will be able to see the latest 775hp JAGUAR 970 (Type 498) with the new PICK UP 300 header being put through its paces. New features on the JAGUAR 970 and the more powerful top-of-the-range JAGUAR 980 include a continuously variable drive. This uses a combination of a mechanical and hydraulic drive to provide high power transmission at a constant speed, so providing a more powerful and consistent drive to attachments such as the DIRECT DISC or maize headers. An additional option is a continuously variable front attachment drive that automatically adjusts the front attachment speed relative to the chop length, for a more even

crop flow and improved chop quality. Other new features include a hydraulic clamping system for the shearbar, resulting in reduced wear and improved chop quality, improvements to the sharpening system and automatic concave adjustment so that the distance between the concave and blades remains constant as the blades wear. Fuel consumption has also been reduced thanks to a new running gear that allows the JAGUAR to now travel at 40kph at just 1300rpm. A new ground drive system produced more hydraulic power and there is also automatic engine speed reduction at the headland. Changes to the PICK UP 300 header include ACTIVE CONTOUR for more accurate ground contour following. First working display of TORION On display for the first time in Ireland will be the new TORION 1812 wheel loader, which will be showing off its capabilities in the clamp. Powered by a 195hp Leibherr 4-cylinder engine, the TORION 1812 has a tipping load capacity of 11 tonnes and an operating weight of 18.7 tonnes. A particular feature of the TORION is its massive torque of 1215Nm, which comes in at just 1100rpm, which is far higher than any competing machine and ensures it has no shortage of pushing power. Drive is through a split-power

CVT CMATIC transmission, again another first for a machine of this type. Another unique feature is the TORION’s extremely low running cost. In addition to its minimal fuel consumption and high productivity, the engine only needs servicing every 2,000 hours, and the transmission checked at 3,000 and serviced at 6,000 hours, far longer than with any other competing machine. New VOLTO 55 tedder The new 4-rotor VOLTO 55 replaces the VOLTO 52 and includes innovations such as the PERMALINK drive and the MAX SPREAD crop flow concept, previously only available on larger models in the range. It has a working width of 5.2m making it ideal for use in combination with 2.1m or 3.0m wide DISCO mowers on small to medium sized farms. Unlike conventional straight tines, with MAX SPREAD the tines are angled by 29 degrees. This has the benefit that more crop is collected as each arm has a longer sweep. Once collected, the crop flows between the rotors in a straight line, so reducing crop damage. This also creates a greater space for the crop to flow through, so helping increase throughput, but results in a wider and more even spread pattern, ensuring fewer lumps and more even drying.

components such as bigger drive chains, oversize roller bearings, a new bale density tension system and Hardox steel rotor tines have also been incorporated in the new designs.

The machines can be seen working at Grassland UK in Somerset on May 10, the Royal Welsh Grassland Event in Powys on May 16 (where John Deere dealer RVT is main sponsor in conjunction with John Deere, Kuhn and JCB) and FTMTA Grass & Muck 2018 in Co Tipperary, Ireland on May 17.

Features include a full width drop-floor unplugging system enabling the operator to remove blockages instantly from the tractor cab, and a range of BaleTrak monitors. There is a choice of net only or net and twine wrapping options, and models are compatible with John Deere’s weather resistant B-Wrap system.

Now available for the 2018 season, the new high capacity V400 Series variable chamber round balers have been designed to work more efficiently and productively in all crop conditions from wet grass to dry, brittle straw, offering farmers and contractors increased versatility and ease of operation. Key features include a durable, extra heavy duty welded frame and a proven feeding system with a larger diameter pick-up and one-piece in-line auger rotor for improved intake and crop flow. John Deere’s 8000 Series self-propelled forage harvesters for 2018 are available with the new HarvestLab 3000 sensing system. HarvestLab was the first NIR (near infrared) sensing system in the industry to

measure silage dry matter and enable automatic length of cut adjustments. The system was subsequently developed to analyse crude protein, starch, NDF, ADF, sugar and other silage constituents, and can now be used for maize, grass and manure sensing. Basic JDLink telematics are fitted as standard on all 8000 Series foragers, and contractors in particular can specify a choice of ‘connected farming’ packages to make the most of this technology.

iXtrack trailed sprayer replaces selfpropelled for lincs grower

Opting for a Vicon iXtrack trailed sprayer to replace a 14 year old sands SLC4000 self-propelled model Opting for a Vicon iXtrack trailed sprayer to replace a 14year old Sands SLC4000 selfpropelled model, Lincolnshire farming brothers Peter and Brian Cook of Hamilton Farm, Market Rasen, have improved output and efficiency for spraying activities. “The lower cost of choosing a new trailed sprayer over a new self-propelled has enabled us to choose a greater specification and take advantage of the latest spraying technology,” explains Peter Cook. “We’re not short of tractors, so it made more sense to switch to a trailed sprayer and benefit from much lower running costs.” Supplied by local dealer FarmStar at Brigg, the 3600-litre iXtrack B36 came equipped with nine sections on its 24m boom, with auto section control and stop/start on headlands provided by a Tellus GO incab controller. Ergo Drive with auto boom lift and lower at headlands, plus a steering

axle add to the sophistication, while twin pumps, auto-fill and iXclean comfort complete the sophisticated sprayer package.

Operator Reuben Major is pleased with the accuracy and efficiency of the Vicon iXtrack trailed sprayer.

L to R: Brian Cook, FarmStar’s Matt Coulby and operator Reuben Major. “It really is a huge step forward,” says Peter Cook. “We have already seen a reduction in chemical spend, simply from being more accurate and reducing our overlaps.”

“The self-propelled was limited to around 32kph, so we were losing time when travelling to the furthest blocks of land,” he says. “And working on some of the steeper banks, the hydrostatic drive would lose forward speed and these factors would compromise my daily output.”

Trading as Cook & Watson, the farm grows winter wheat, winter oilseed rape, sugar beet, beans, spring barley and a considerable area of potatoes. Such an extensive rotation sees the farm make applications totaling 25,000 acres/season.

“Opting for a trailed sprayer means we now have plenty of speed and power up front – a New Holland T6030 – and that means a consistent spraying speed in all fields, and a decent travel speed when running to and from the chemical store.”

With fields ranging in size from four to 160 acres, and spread across an 11-mile working radius, boom folding and road transport were other key areas of consideration, as operator Reuben Major explains.

“The iXtrack is also a compact and agile sprayer on the road, and it rides extremely well,” he says. “Boom folding is quicker too, and boom stability across our rolling fields, is really impressive.”

UFU calls for the favourable decisions to be made on ammonia

Ulster Farmers’ Union president, Ivor Ferguson has said of the long delays farmers have faced in the processing of farm planning applications

Ulster Farmers’ Union president, Ivor Ferguson has said the long delays farmers have faced, some waiting well over a year for a decision, in the processing of farm planning applications as a result of ammonia regulations is farcical and totally unacceptable. The UFU president made the comments following reports that DAERA and NIEA are to finally make decisions on outstanding cases. UFU president Ivor Ferguson said: “DAERA must make the right decisions on planning applications and ammonia to ensure that local agriculture can progress. We have been pressing DAERA and NIEA for some time on this and have been critical of the way they have dealt with the issue. Significant internal policy changes took place at least twice in 2017. There was no consultation with farmers at

26 | AgriNews

any time, even though farmers had applied for planning in good faith and many had spent £10,000 or more on applications. This should not have happened and we need answers as to why this occurred and who made these decisions.” Ferguson said: “We still do not know the extent of our ammonia emissions across NI and the UFU has concerns that some of the emission factors that are being used to calculate ammonia do not reflect the real situation on many local farms. While we welcome the fact that DAERA have commissioned a number of research projects to address these knowledge gaps, this will take time and in the meantime we are left in limbo using information that is out of date and is open to considerable question. How can farmers plans be judged

by NIEA using information that cannot be substantiated?” Ferguson said: “The UFU has been co-operating with NIEA in trying to improve our environment and farmers have already taken many steps to reduce ammonia emissions on their farms. Farmers who are upgrading their buildings and can show that they are reducing their ammonia emissions must be allowed to progress. To do otherwise has the potential to close Northern Ireland agriculture for business; this would be totally unacceptable and sends out the wrong message.” The Ulster Farmers’ Union will be scrutinising the decisions as they roll out and will take whatever action is necessary to deliver a common sense approach for farmers.

Effective Poultry House Cleaning Steve Birchall Poultry House Cleaning Services High pressure powerwashing, disinfectant and cleaners With the poultry industry experiencing more than its fair share of problems over the past 12 months or so no poultry producer can afford to hinder flock performance by allowing a build up of micro organisms. Even low disease levels drag profits back and skimping on the cleaning routine between flocks is false economy, says Lancashire based cleaning specialist Steve Birchall. “There is no opportunity these days to rest buildings between flocks. Turnaround times are tight and it is, therefore, vital that buildings are not only throughly cleaned but disinfected as well, and if there has been a problem

the cleaning and disinfection treatment should take account of it” says Steve, who has been operating a nationwide poultry contract shed cleaning business for over 30 years. His three teams are equipped to carry out whatever cleaning regime producers require and he suggests a good standard routine for anyone who wants the best safeguard. After the litter has been removed, the building and any equipment either retained inside or taken out should be power washed at about 2,500 psi with a combined cleaner/ sanitizer/deodorizer, which should remove some of the 80% of micro organisms at this stage.

“Older buildings are often more difficult to clean than modern ones”, Steve says, “However, if you are going to do the job at all, then it is worth doing properly and you have to take sufficient time, particularly in breeder or laying units where nest boxes and equipment have been in place for 12 months or more. Broiler units with a six or seven day turnaround are less difficult. However, people who prefer to do what is a rather unpleasant job themselves often get rather jaded before it has been done properly. If there are other enterprises on the farm, they have to keep breaking off to do other work.

Isuzu pickup fleet conversions showcased at CV show 2018

Isuzu UK showcased award-winning Isuzu D-Max conversions at CV show 2018, following significant fleet partnerships in first quarter of 2018

Positioned at the forefront of the Isuzu stand, the two conversion models based on the D-Max Utility showcased the versatility of the awardwinning pickup, which makes it ideal for professional and industry fleets. The Isuzu pickups are proving popular with both large and small businesses, with bespoke fleet partnership options which suit individual business needs. More recent partnerships in the first quarter of 2018 include deals with Western Power, BT Openreach and the RAC, which see the D-Max variants decaled and converted for bespoke use. Also showcased on conversion partner stands at the CV Show; Gentilli, Cumberland and Strongs; the D-Max provides a solid basis for conversion across a diverse range of fleets in numerous industries. Coupled with its range of variants, the D-Max is proven to be the professional’s pickup of

choice, having won numerous awards in 2018, more recently ‘Best Workhorse Pickup’ at the 2018 Trade Van Driver Awards, presented at the CV Show. Paul Murphy, Cumberland Platforms LTD Managing Director, said: “Our relationship with Isuzu has grown from strength to strength over the years. This is due to the support they have shown us with a variety of conversions and also the time they have taken to understand our needs as a company. “You could argue that the Isuzu D-Max is made for the conversion market. This model comes in at a low cost but maintains a very high standard of quality. The light weight chassis and no ad blue makes it perfect for the development of a variety of conversion. For instance, the Isuzu CPL Chipper Tipper boasts a 1300Kg payload thanks to some clever engineering and the weight of

the D-Max. It just works!” Sean Smith, Fleet and Used Vehicle Manager at Isuzu UK commented: “Isuzu pickups are the perfect partners for fleet users in a range of industries. The versatile vehicles have a track record of delivering reliability, fuel efficiency and a workhorse nature which never fails to deliver. The conversions on display at the CV Show are just a small example of what we can offer and we welcome any enquiries regarding future partnerships”. The award-winning Isuzu D-Max has already had a successful 2018 being named both WhatVan? Pickup of the Year 2018 and Professional Pickup and 4X4 Magazines Most Reliable Pickup of 2018, impressing judges across the board with its workhorse nature, unbeatable reliability, 1 tonne payload and maximum 3.5 tonne towing capability.
