Industry developments and pressure from the supply chain are turning the spotlight on more efﬁcient cleaning units as a way to increase performance while reducing antibiotics use. The packers and retailers are demanding, less dependance on the use of antibiotics to control disease so producers need to respond to this. To control disease and maintain production, the industry has to explore and adopt alternative ways to reduce the pathogen risk to birds. Better hygiene practices, based on more efﬁcient cleaning of housing and equipment combined with strict biosecurity is an obvious starting point. It is entirely logical to get buildings as clean as possible before repopulating them to reuce the diease threat before the new birds arrive. New stock are under stress brought about by combination factors including transport, handling, vaccination and being exposed to new diease threats. The more that can be done to reduce diease threats, the better. There is a real scope to improve the effectiveness of cleaning of all types of poultry housing but the starting point is a change of mind set.

Too many producers regard cleaning as a “must do”, uninteresting and mundane chore, something that has to be done and the sooner it is done the better, however, nothing could be further than the truth. Cleaning should be seen as an intergral part of a production system which can have a significant impact on performance, costs and profit. An efficient well planned and implemented cleaning procedure can reduce the diease threat to birds leading to better performance. It can also save time and reduce costs. An effective routine comprises of two distinct interrelated stages - cleaning and disinfection. Cleaning is essential to remove the environment in which pathogens thrive and to expose them to the subsiquent disinfectant. You can not disinfect dirt and unless soiling is removed the pathogens will be protected from the disinfectant. The cleaning phase is crucial but this is not a case of taking an ardent approach with a high pressure power washer. While you can blast away some soiling, you will not remove the fats and proteins which make up much of the dirt on the walls and other surfaces. In addition, the use of high pressure creates an aerosol effect which can actuallly spread the pathogens and make problems worse. To achieive an effecive clean it is essential to apply a detergent and then to rinse away under low pressure followed by the application of disinfectant. Effective cleaning will help provent the economic loss associated with outbreaks and is considerably cheaper than the cost of treating an outbreak with medicines. Using chemical detergents ensures that soiling is removed before disinfection resulting in a reduction in bacterial levels prior to restocking, giving the new birds the best possible start. Thorough cleaning based on a two stage routine could have a big impact on future profits and turn cleaning from a chore into a profit driver.

The key reason for this finish was to conform to the local planning requirements. However it will also provide an extra layer of protection to our already highest quality sheet galvanisation. This is a very impressive bespoke Euro Code designed silo facility, in white with a green band! Our intention to remain at the forefront of this business sector has already been established, with key preferred supplier status being achieved with major companies throughout the world.

To meet the customers’ requirements we had to design and produce a bespoke 13.5 metre diameter silo which is not a standard size. The silos were powder coat finished which was applied to the treated galvanised steel, giving the silo two layers of protection.

Vicon to strengthen its position

Lamma show debut for new range of variable chamber balers

Vicon is to strengthen its position in the baler market with a new range of variable chamber round balers that deliver a huge step forward in terms of reliability and output. The new range will be making its public debut at Lamma 2015. Badged RV5200 series, the new models comprise the RV5216 and RV5220, which replace the previous generation RV4216 and RV4220 balers. Capable of producing bales with diameters of up to 1.65m and 2.0m respectively, the RV5216 and RV5220 are equipped with ﬁve endless belts and use a closed chamber system that affords immediate bale starting. Key changes found on this latest generation of variable chamber balers is the development of an allnew net wrap system, plus a new software package for easier selection of bale density. Called PowerBind, Vicon’s latest net system uses fewer components and eliminates the need for feedin rollers. This latest system has been engineered to avoid interference from external factors such as wind and crop. “Net is fed directly into the bale chamber using the PowerBind arm, which maintains net tension at all times and delivers accurate and repeatable accuracy with consistent net injection,” explains Mike Howell, product manager for Vicon grass equipment. When the bale is 90 per cent complete, the PowerBind arm moves forward, in preparation to inject net. This functionality adds to reliability and productivity, simply by eliminating time the bale might need to pick up the net. As a result, PowerBind provides one of the fastest net wrap processes available, which means less time spent tying and more time spent baling. PowerBind also offers an extremely low loading height - to replace an empty roll, simply swing out its retaining shaft and install a new roll of net. Redesigned roll storage now puts both spare net rolls adjacent to the Powerbind system, making roll swaps easy and convenient. Intelligent Density 3D is the latest software package for in-cab control of bale density. It affords three preconﬁgured bale densities accessed from the control box menu, with each tailored for straw, hay or silage. This makes any change-over from different crop types much easier and reduces the risk of error.

“Intelligent Density 3D makes it easy to choose between the three most common and popular settings for bale density without having to spend too much time on fine-tuning and adjusting for different crops, which can often be something many operators tend to forget,” he says. “By putting more thought and intelligence into controlling the bale density, we have made operating Vicon balers much easier.” “But it is still possible to customise bale density in each of the three separate zones, allowing a choice of diameter, pressure and net quantity to match specific requirements.” A 2.2m wide pickup with a rotor feed intake system, called SuperFeed, is also a standard feature for both models. The pickup design uses five tine bars with two central supports and an all-new roller crop press above, to handle swaths of any density and shape. The twin cam-track design gives a more robust control of tine arms and enables the use of powered, short feed augers to provide a positive and even flow of crop to the main feed rotor. The SuperFeed rotor design is one that uses a helical twin-tine pattern to provide a smooth but positive feed of crop into the bale chamber. The result is said to be uniform bale formation, and its development is one that has simplified production while enabling a high degree of standardisation when it comes to spare parts availability. The integration of a compact, internal drive system for the pickup enables guide wheels to remain in their working position during transport. Overall width of the baler’s front end is contained within the 2.5m rear wheel track. RV balers can be specified with 14- or 25-knife SuperCut crop chopping options, with the latter achieving a 40mm chop length. A drop floor chamber is maintained, and allows any blockage to be quickly cleared by simply lowering the floor to release chamber pressure.

Kuhn Farm Machinery has added a new semimounted gyrorake to its range of hay and silage making equipment. With a 5.40 to 6.40 metre working width, the compact twin-rotor GA 6501 machine includes all of the main features from Kuhn’s range topping professional rakes, at a very attractive feature-to-price ratio. The GA 6501 delivers a central windrow from two rotating rakes which have an adjustable working width of 5.40 to 6.40 metres. Both rotors are equipped with 10 tine arms, each fitted with three tines per arm. The new machine uses a fully enclosed mechanical gearbox which requires a tractor with a minimum power output of 40hp. It sits on three super balloon wheels (16 x 6.50 – 8) for improved ground tracking and has folded transport dimensions of just 2.5 metres wide by 3.5 metres high, making it quick, easy and safe to move from one field to the next. “High quality raking is only possible if the tines can follow undulating terrain in a smooth and controlled manner,” explains Duncan McLeish, UK Sales Manager for Kuhn Farm Machinery. “As with all Kuhn gyrorakes, the GA 6501 features a three-dimensional rotor articulation design which allows the raking units to closely follow ground contours without damaging the underlying grass stubble and without contaminating the crop with soil.” An optional bogie axle further enhances the GA 6501’s ground following ability by aiding rotor guidance on the most difficult terrain where the machine’s overall design ensures that high raking speeds are still possible.

Fertilising technology 750,000 twin disc spreaders sold will be the theme for Amazone on Stand R33 out in the cold at LAMMA this year with this major achievement being celebrated by the launch of the new mechanical ZATS spreader. The ZA-TS was launched in 2013 in its Ultra Hydro specification with a payload of 4,500 kg, a hydraulic disc drive and spreading widths up to 54 m. The adjustment of the AutoTS border spreading system, and that of the Delivery System, was carried out electronically from the tractor cab over the ISOBUS terminal. Early this year, the ZATS Super was launched, with a reduced payload of 3,200 kg, but now, for 2015, the ZA-TS will be available in a mechanically-driven format with a new narrower hopper – just 2.6 m wide for safe road transport in narrower lanes. Also the AutoTS System is now supplemented by ClickTS which is either the complete mechanical control of border spreading, or a combination of one-side electric and one-side mechanical, both at a reduced cost. The mechanically-driven version still offers 8 section part-width shut-off via GPS-Switch and can also be specified without a weighing system. A new mechanical adjustment of the Delivery System option, meaning that the fine-tuning of the spreading width is carried out down at the spreader, is also available as a downgrade. A mechanically-actuated roll-over cover and simplified parking stands in lieu of the hydraulic cover and the swivel rolling and parking device are also now available. Hopper sizes run right through from 1,700 litres through to 4,800 litres and prices for the new lower-specced ZA-TS models start from £13,475. The new MULTILINE series from PÖTTINGER creates true all-rounders. Last year, PÖTTINGER successfully combined the TERRADISC compact disc harrow with the seed drill. This year the same recipe for success has been applied to the SYNKRO stubble cultivator. The result is a cost-effective, high-performance range of equipment that enables sensational flexibility during operation. Used solo or in a combination, the new SYNKRO MULTILINE promises enormous potential. Stubble cultivators are always in demand: especially in times of high plant protection costs and various legislation on protecting the water table, effective stubble cultivation makes a significant contribution to sustainable cultivation and long-term yield. The MULTILINE concept takes the range of applications offered by the SYNKRO 3030 to a whole new level. Fitted with the 585 rubber-packer roller, the SYNKRO can be combined with a PÖTTINGER seed drill. The lifting system works in the same way as the TERRADISC, which has already gained huge acceptance on the market. The machine is trailed using a drawbar attached to Cat. III lower linkages, so it is also suitable for smaller tractors. The SYNKRO MULTILINE can be operated conveniently using the most straightforward tractor set-up. Combined with the seed drill, it offers an ideal alternative to conventional mulch seed drills. The weight of the machine is borne by the packer roller. Only the supported load acts on the tractor. This means that it is possible to use the machine without front ballast. Harmful compaction at the headland is greatly reduced as a result: the new SYNKRO MULTILINE features excellent ground conservation technology and sustainability to guarantee longterm yield. The machine is raised using the rubber packer roller and hinged drawbar to provide ground clearance of 250 mm. A double-acting spool valve is required to lift the stubble cultivator/seed drill combination. The SYNKRO 3030 MULTILINE is available with scalloped concave discs, not with tines. VITASEM A or VITASEM ADD seed drills are installed as standard above the packer roller. This allows the seed drill to be fitted or removed easily depending on whether the trailed stubble cultivator is to be used on its own or not. As a result, the SYNKRO MULTILINE is a real multi-talent with a wide range of applications.

All new John Deere Gator utility vehicles can now be equipped with the nationally approved CESAR security and registration system from Datatag ID Limited, as a factory ﬁt option. An XUV 855D model was unveiled on the CESAR stand at LAMMA 2015 in January as the scheme’s 200,000th registered machine. The system is now being offered on Gators following its success in reducing tractor thefts from dealers and customers, and has exactly the same functionality as on the John Deere tractor range. Supported by the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) and the Construction Equipment Association (CEA), CESAR is ﬁtted on production lines in the UK, Europe and the USA by many leading manufacturers. The system was established in the construction market in 2007 and adopted by the agricultural market two years later, with the AEA’s support. It works by giving each piece of equipment a unique and permanent identity using state of the art Datatag security marking technology. This cannot be removed by thieves, and is linked to a secure, 24/7 dedicated call centre. Since 2007, CESAR has reduced overall equipment theft in the UK by 46 per cent, increased the rate of recovery of stolen equipment by a factor of six, and also helped reduce insurance premiums.

“I’m extremely proud that CESAR has reached another significant milestone,” said Datatag ID managing director Kevin Howells at LAMMA. "When we launched CESAR back in 2007 we could not have conceived of its success in being adopted by leading manufacturers and in reducing theft. Both the 3400 and 3400XL models have a sealed constant velocity transmission and are available with two engine conﬁgurations: a 40-horsepower (570 cc) gas engine or a 24-horsepower (1120 cc) diesel engine. The gas and diesel engines provide operators with greater performance — up to 40 mph with a dealer-installed kit. The 3400 and 3400XL gas units provide easier start-up and responsive acceleration with an electronic fuel injection system, which adjusts to temperature and altitude changes. The 3400 and 3400XL diesel units have automatic glow plugs that adjust to colder starting conditions.

Acceleration is not a problem with these vehicles, as they can gain speed smoothly and quickly. An ergonomic lever allows 3400 and 3400XL utility vehicle operators to shift between high, low, neutral and park positions. The four-wheel drive system allows operators to shift on-the-ﬂy to adjust to changing ground conditions. For machine protection, both models have a full skid plate, a constant velocity shield and an optional brush guard to protect the undercarriage, engine, transmission and radiator when traveling over rough terrain, logs, rocks and other debris. Improved suspension New Bobcat 3400 and 3400XL utility vehicles provide both an adjustable independent front dual A-arm suspension and an adjustable rear de Dion multi-link suspension system. The new suspension system provides the operator and passengers with a more comfortable ride, tighter turning radius, increased payload capacity and more stability when towing. Each utility vehicle wheel moves independently, keeping all wheels in contact with the ground, for maximum traction.

Carpenters construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. Honda extends its TRX500 Foreman Range

Honda has extended its TRX500 (Foreman) range with the introduction of three new models; bringing independent rear suspension (IRS) and dual-clutch transmission (DCT) to the line-up for the ﬁrst time. The new models are as follows: -TRX500FM5 (manual, IRS) -TRX500FA5 (automatic, IRS) -TRX500FA6 (automatic, IRS, power steering) All three build upon enhancements made to the last new models launched in January 2014 - most notably the stiffer, lighter double-cradle frame, redesigned EPS setting and enhanced fuel injection system - but with further developments based on customer and dealer feedback. One of the most fundamental changes is the move to IRS which delivers much improved performance capability, comfort and ride. IRS signiﬁcantly contributes towards a 55% increase in towing capacity (600kg) and payload compared to previous models, as well as ramping up rack capacities to 45kg (front) and 85kg (rear). IRS also offers increased suspension travel of 215mm (front) and 185mm (rear), both of which can be adjusted to suit load and conditions. Additionally, the new frame, introduced in the January 2014 models and adjusted to accommodate Honda's IRS system, delivers improved torsional rigidity for class leading handling and comfort, and a smoother ride. The TRX500FA5 and FA6 feature Honda's dual range automatic gearbox, offering the choice of automatic or manual modes with Electric Shift Programme (ESP). The introduction of DCT in automatic mode - for the ﬁrst time on the Foreman range - means reduced power loss which delivers fuel efﬁciency gains and a smoother ride. A new dual shift mapping programme takes feedback on how the bike is being ridden from the ECU, and changes gear accordingly. Kioti launch new Mechron series Kioti expand its UTV Mechron Series with four new models

Kioti will be expanding its UTV Mechron series with four new models being launched by UK importer RECO in time for the New Year. These new models include two petrol and two diesel engine vehicles to offer a wider functionality that will a variety of needs from leisure use to agricultural purposes. Reco Area Sales Manager Steven Haynes said "With the addition of the four new Mechron UTV's to our line-up we have now a full product offering to suit the varied customer base that makes up the growing UTV market." Petrol UTVs KiotiThe new Mechron 250 & 500 petrol utility vehicles are ideal for the leisure market with speeds of up to 65km/h. Both models as standard are issued in the now familiar Kioti orange and a camo exterior option is available for the 500 model. The compact 250 offers great performance with a mid-mounted electronic fuel injected 16hp (250cc) engine. Rack & Pinion steering gives a very light and comfortable operation. There is adequate space for two people with a vinyl bench seat that can be removed for ease of access to the engine bay. Despite being a compact machine the Mechron 250 petrol UTV offers a manual tipping cargo box with 80kg carrying capacity. In comparison the larger Mechron 500 petrol UTV is powered by an 18hp (500cc) hisun water cooled single cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection as standard. A large cargo box has 200kg carrying capacity. Twin high back 'sports style' bucket seats, with automotive style seat belts, suspension on all wheels, ensures the operator and passenger have a comfortable and independent ride to suit their needs in a model that offers a modern and stylish appearance. Both models include Dual range CVT which can be engaged using a dash mounted lever.

Diesel UTVs Kioti have offered the popular Mechron 2200/2210 models through RECO since 2010. However with the beginning of 2015, two new diesel models are being added to the diesel Mechron series. Built on an extended Mechron 2210 chassis the new 2230 model is equipped with the same impressive features as found on current models. The same class leading ground clearance and power steering feature as standard and the 2230 includes a large 500kg capacity cargo box that is 300mm longer than the standard box. To extend the appeal of the Mechron range to a wider market Kioti are also launching a 4 seat diesel Mechron 2240 UTV. This has been designed to carry 4 passengers comfortably and carry a full load at the same time. The Mechron 2240 UTV has been designed with front and back 'walk-through' design to offer plenty of leg room for the operator and passengers. The rear cargo box is the same as on the 2200/2100 models, with a weight capacity of 300kg. A good feature on this new 2240 model is the large under seat storage box that is split into different "handy" sized sections. Due to the longer chassis the frame rails have been double stacked for additional strength. It has undergone prolonged high intensity testing in the US without any reports of chassis failure or damage. A single Outlander Plug-In Vehicle could regenerate enough spare energy to power 150 homes

CIRENCESTER – Mitsubishi’s game changing 148 mpg Outlander plug-in uses a clever energy recovery system to harvest electricity that would otherwise be lost. Over 100 miles of mixed driving, up to 15kw/hrs of potentially wasted energy is harvested and put back into the vehicle’s lithiumion battery. This means that in a year, driving 10,000 miles, a single Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in could create enough spare electricity to keep on the lights and appliances in 150 UK homes for a day – OFGEM figures put average daily electricity use in UK homes at around 10kw/hrs. Recovery of kinetic energy – a function of weight and speed - is maximised using a unique paddle-shift system that selects from five precise levels of regenerative braking. Driver control of when and where kinetic energy is harvested significantly increases the mix of electrical power in the vehicle’s hybrid drive-train. Replenishing the battery in this way extends the petrol-free driving range and offsets the need for power that would otherwise be drawn from National Grid charging infrastructure. The Outlander plug-in is a full-sized family 4x4 SUV that combines electric and petrol power. Unlike most hybrid vehicles, the Outlander can travel significantly further on electrical power alone

- 32.5 miles in fact. The impressive electric range gives the vehicle phenomenal environmental credentials. It emits just 44g/km of CO2 and the official combined fuel consumption figure is 148mpg. The Outlander plug-in’s on-board computer accurately displays harvested energy and usage in real-time. The paddle shift levers are located on the steering column, enabling the driver to comfortably optimise the level of regenerative braking with changing road and driving conditions. Steep descents and motorway speeds allow for stronger regenerative braking using level five. Levels two, three and four provide a productive level of regeneration in and around urban areas. Level one provides a lighter but still beneficial level of energy recovery. The Outlander plug-in attracts zero vehicle excise duty and is exempt from London Congestion Charge. The vehicle also qualifies for the Government’s £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant. In fact it accounts for more than half of all grants. For company car drivers Outlander attracts just five per cent benefit-in-kind tax, saving £8,216 in personal tax over three years compared to a similar size 4x4 SUV.
