AN INTERIOR THAT WILL NEVER BE OUT OF STYLE Fashion, as you can imagine, is a demanding lady. This is regarding not only clothes, but also the design of interiors. Perhaps specifically due to this fact, we have evolved from the Baroque and Rococo style to minimalism and high tech. Regardless of the situation, we all have a desire to make the interior stylish and functional for many years after renovations. So how is it possible to create an interior that will not be out of style even after the birth of new technologies?

“FASHION CHANGES, BUT STYLE ENDURES” These are the words of the great Coco Chanel, and she was absolutely right as her style is lively to this day. On this basis, you should not chase fashion trends that change prac-

tically every year but rather your personal sense of style, beauty, and aesthetics. Of course, in order to do this, you must have a delicate taste. If you are sceptical about your sense of style, do not forget about the available helpers! You have access to examples of model interiors leaning towards the classical style and valuable pieces of advice with which you can ace this task even if you are not a designer. This will be a much better option than merely creating an extravagant interior with obsessive designs or chairs of an unimaginable shape.

A VICTORIOUS COLOUR SCHEME The colour scheme plays a special role in the interior. If you wish to create a design that will last you for “centuries,” we recommend following the rule of the three colours. A winning combination can be the classic alliance of the achromatic colours: black, white, and grey. However, if this option seems trivial and inappropriate to you,

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

try to create your interior with three shades of blue, green, or brown. While doing so, it is best to make the background a lighter shade and outline the details of the interior with the darkest shade. The middle shade will be used to enhance the interior.

ACHIEVING LEVEL GENIUS – SIMPLE! Why be hesitant when you have everything you need to get started? Do not chase fashion trends; instead, pay attention to the small details that will make your interior stylish. Use exclusively good quality material for furniture, give preference to simple forms and unobtrusive colours, do not use both ends of the spectrum - for example, middle ages style and high-tech – but rather stick to the golden middle. Furthermore, it is important to keep in mind the ergonomic when designing an interior. If the interior is not comfortable for you, the style loses all of its value.

VINTAGE POSTERS IN THE INTERIOR

4

The overall impression of the poster greatly depends on how it is presented. You can fix it to a wall with pins, like in the dorm room of a student, or you can frame the poster in anti-reflective glass. The retro poster is the same but the difference in these methods of presenting is vast.

Elements of bygone eras have always been popular in the interior; today, our love for retro is greater than ever!

necessary to decorate the entire room in the retro style. Vintage posters effectively work with modern furniture and interiors. They have become independent objects of art and are already considered suitable for all times.

You can find vintage posters in just about any interior, whether it is minimalistic or modern. Generally, these are depictions of old advertisements, movie posters, or magazine covers. Separate topics are art posters in the pin-up style or posters of old car models. In order to allow yourself the incorporation of such posters, it is un-

Of course, true vintage posters are rarities and objects of collections. I believe you would agree that the cover of the Life Magazine from 1950 is not easily accessible! You do not have to include true old posters in the retro style. Another option would be to obtain good quality duplications made with modern trends.

A collection of vintage posters may also be used to make the interior lively. You can incorporate these in the living room or dining room. The dĂŠcor of the room where you take guests is a reflection of your preferences and hobbies. Hence, displaying retro posters will be a sign that you are interested in the previous century and enjoy music and movies from that era. Sometimes, we want to make the interior bohemian and the atmosphere careless and loose. In this case, vintage posters are simultaneously a democratic and elegant dĂŠcor for the walls. By displaying several retro posters on the walls of your living room, you are creating a friendly atmosphere perfect for get-togethers and intellectual conversations.

COMMON MISTAKES ADULTS MAKE WHEN DESIGNING THE CHILDREN’S ROOM

Certainly, every parent strives to make the interior of their child as comfortable and cozy as possible. However, while doing so, parents often make mistakes in the design of the interior that are easy to recognize and avoid in the future. In this article, we will tell you about these mistakes and how to avoid them. LOOK AT THE INTERIOR FROM YOUR CHILD’S PERSPECTIVE First and foremost, put yourself in your child’s shoes when observing the room. Pay attention to whether the furniture is of a comfortable height and if the child is able to reach objects from shelves and closets.

6

ALL ABOUT HOME

Would your child approve of the colour scheme or would it be irritable? After all, this room will be a personal getaway for many years to come so try to take into account your child’s wishes. Do not attempt to make the interior extravagant merely to impress guests. Guests come and go, but your child will spend the majority of his or her life in that room.

AGE MATTERS The age of the room’s inhabitant is of great importance. The interior should be designed not only according to the child’s current age, but also taking into account the upcoming years. In this case, you can make use of “transformer” furniture, tables with adjustable height, etc. The main goal is for your child to feel comfortable in his or her room.

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

SAFETY FIRST! Ensure that your child’s room does not have any sharp edges or other dangers. Remember that the child will play in this room so danger must be eliminated. Pay careful attention to the safety of outlets. The windows should be closed on locks that the child will not be able to conquer. Lastly, let us remind you that the material that the furniture and other objects in the room are made of must be natural and ecologically friendly! If you can, avoid obtaining furniture made from chipboards and minimize the use of synthetics and plastic.

THE ART OF FRAMING –

How to make an Impressive Décor from Nothing If you pay close attention, you will notice that all graphic artwork consists of two parts – the creation itself and how well it is framed. The frame often plays a decisive role in obtaining an overall impression of an artwork. Many pictures would not attract our attention if they were not framed in an interesting and proper manner. We will go further – in some cases, you can have just the frame with no artwork! In the XX century, there were different genres in the field of art. People were observing every object as a masterpiece. We decided to support this idea and present ways of how any object can become one of art, as long as it is properly framed! In the modern world of design, this will not be a problem; all you need is the proper instruments and understanding specialists that will analyze the problem and provide a solution. Generally, these studios offer frames for pictures, mirrors, knitwork, posters, and water-colour artworks. They offer a variety of different frames and even the option of having the designer visit your home.

A FRAME WITH NOTHING The most radical decision is to have a frame for nothing; you will only have the wall of the frame. You have just created an article of art. It is unusual; however, as we mentioned earlier, the most important thing is having the right frame.

A FRAME WITH SOMETHING A frame can contain just about anything; it can be notes, pictures, keys, newspaper articles, glasses, or a favourite toy. Ensure that everything fits into the frame!

8

ALL ABOUT HOME

Often, you can find such a composition on the wall in the office of an artistic individual. However, do not be afraid to display this piece in the living room or kitchen.

FRAMED CARTOGRAPHY If maps never appealed to you as an object of art, try to look at them from a different perspective. You can frame a single map or assemble the atlas of the world – both options will look unique and aesthetically pleasing.

EVERYDAY OBJECTS IN THE FRAME The most ordinary objects can become quite unique if properly framed. Whether it is a bottle of milk, plate, cutlery, or anything in your imagination, you can make it a true object of art.

A MIRROR IN THE FRAME A common and regular occurrence is to have a simple mirror with an exquisite

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

frame. Keep in mind the quality of the frame – this is of utmost importance. The mirror does not necessarily have to be large – a collection of small mirrors is an equally worthy candidate to be called an art-object.

FEATHERS IN THE FRAME Using feathers – large or small, colourful or bland – is very appealing in the frame. This option is elegant and presentable.

INSTRUMENTS AND SOUVENIRS IN THE FRAME If you have objects that are dear to your heart, the most wonderful deed you can do for them is to display them with a worthy frame. A favourite instrument (except the grand piano), novel, or souvenir from memorable trips can become a respectable and outstanding framed object of art.

For many years, I have been working with investment deals regarding buying real estate from the builder and clients often ask me the same question: Is it better to buy a house or an apartment? In this article, I will attempt to thoroughly outline all of the pros and cons of both options. DETACHED HOUSES, TOWNHOUSES, THE SO-CALLED FREEHOLD – With these kinds of real estate, unlike with condominiums, VIP sales do not happen. Subsequently, the real estate will be purchased by the price of the builder without any discounts; however, you can try to be one of the first customers so that you can at least obtain a favourable lot. At this stage, you will leave a deposit and receive a contract that enables the house to become your property upon completion. Re-selling contracts of real estate in the category freehold is prohibited. Therefore, by the completion of construction, the customer essentially has one option – to obtain a mortgage and seal the deal. If the customer’s financial status for any reason changes and they will no longer be able to obtain a mortgage and subsequently close the deal, they will face great loses. First of all, the deposit may be lost and second of all, additional charges of tens of thousands of dollars may apply. However, let’s imagine a scenario where everything goes well and you are ready to close the deal. Inevitably, difficulties will occur. Generally, people investing in real estate already have their own property and as such, the second purchase is considered an investment. This means that you can expect a down payment of a minimum of 25%. Furthermore, qualifications for receiving a mortgage will rely solely on your income as the investment property at the moment of the deal is not rented; therefore, the profit from rent is not

10

ALL ABOUT HOME

considered. In addition, you will have to pay the Land Transfer Tax and the so-called refundable part of HST (approximately 6% of the price of the real estate). This money will be returned to you in the first month or two after the real estate is rented; however, on the moment of closing the deal, you will have to pay this amount in addition to the down payment and Land Transfer Tax. You will not be able to sell the real estate for at least a year. If this occurs, the deal will automatically be transferred into the category “speculative sale” and you will be asked to return the refundable portion of HST that you have received. Finally, the rent itself in this situation does not look the best. The problem is that real estate in developed towns such as Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Markham, Aurora, etc., is expensive and the profit you receive from rent will not be enough to cover your house expenses (mortgage and property tax). In less developed areas, farther from Toronto, the situation is better. However, it is harder to find someone to rent to with an ideal credit history and renting to someone mediocre often leads to court and substantial financial loses. Furthermore, do not forget about the house’s depreciation. Be prepared to spend a significant amount on renovations for the presale preparations after a year or two. CONDOMINIUMS – In terms of investing purposes in this type of real estate, you will encounter advantages from the very beginning. First of all, on the VIP sales, you already have a significant discount. After the official opening of the project, the price will be completely different; hence, you have already earned profit. Besides favourable prices, VIP sales offer other benefits. For example, you will receive permission (generally, for free) to re-sell the contract. As a result, you have the opportunity to leave a deposit upon signing the contract and re-sell the contract after project completion. Furthermore, in this scenario, you do not have to obtain a mortgage or pay the Land Transfer Tax. Condominiums, unlike houses, have an Occupancy Day – a day when you are given the keys and may live in the unit or give it up for rent. Approximately after six months, there will be the Closing Day – the closing of the deal

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

after which you become a rightful owner of the apartment. Re-selling the contract becomes a wonderful option for investors during this time. In addition, a very important factor is the security of the investment deal. If you were planning to close the deal and give the unit for rent but your situation changes, you have the opportunity to favourably re-sell the contract not only upon completion of construction, but also in the middle of the process. Another important moment is obtaining the mortgage if you decide to close the deal. Due to the fact that at the moment of closing the apartment is your property for around six months, it was no doubt given for rent. The rent prices in downtown Toronto are expensive enough to completely cover your expenses (payment for the apartment, yearly taxes, and maintenance fees) and still have left over profit. Subsequently, when qualifying for mortgage, the bank will take into account the profit from rent which will significantly ease obtaining the mortgage. Finally, there is the rent itself to consider. The demand for apartments in downtown Toronto is so high that you will always find the so-called AAA tenants and the tenants with a poor credit history will not even be considered. Also, do not forget that when selling the apartment, you will have to do renovations. In a house, this procedure can be quite expensive but in an apartment, it is usually sufficient to merely re-paint the walls. In this article, I do not have space to provide mathematical calculations on investing in these types of real estate but I can conclusively say that currently, investing in downtown condoapartments in the beginning stage of construction brings twice as much profit as an analogous deal with a freehold townhouse or detached house. Lastly, deals with condos are much safer and secure.

Since ancient times, it is considered that mud has the unique property of eliminating negative energies and emotions in people. Thus, mud dishes are very popular. Today, any store selling dishes for the home is ready to offer you a vast variety of options. In villages, mud bowls were used to store milk and surprisingly, the milk did not spoil for several days. Various mud vessels enabled people to save jam and pickles from mould while flour did not encounter any bugs or insects. In our time, ceramic dishes have also found their vast usefulness. This is due to the fact that for many centuries, the use of ceramics has proved to have countless advantages. For example, mud can control and maintain a certain temperature much like a thermos. Stewed fruit juice will remain fresh for a long time in a ceramic flask. Tea or coffee can remain warm for several hours. Currently, ceramic

simple rules of its uses. First of all, ceramic dishes should not experience rapid temperature changes. Do not place ceramics in a stove immediately after you take it out of the fridge. Let it rest for some time. If you put it on a gas stove, do not rapidly increase the temperature; this process should be gradual. Keep in mind that ceramics are afraid of open fire; therefore, avoid cooking anything in ceramic dishes on a gas stove. Furthermore, it is not recommended to use ceramics in the microwave. Mud dishes are very suitable for the preparation of food which is why they look quite different from beautiful porcelain dishes. Due to its durability, many dishes for children are made from this material. If you use porcelain for cooking, it will explode when put in a stove whereas mud dishes will only become stronger if exposed to heat.

DECORATIVE PILLOWS: How to make the Right Decision A Continuation from the previous issue

COLOUR AND DESIGN When considering the colour and design, concentrate on the following five schemes: cold, warm, neutral, neutral with accents, and colourful.

PILLOWS CAN BE DIFFERENT Prior to selecting pillows for your room, pay attention to several elements. Pillows are important objects, with a unique style and colour scheme. For example, for a living room, you must first decide on what floor you want, main furniture, pictures, rugs, portraits, etc. The pillows and other small accessories are chosen last and according to the style of the interior. Of course, an exception is when you already have the pillows and simply need to incorporate them into a new interior. In this case, they will become the central aspect.

COLD COLOUR SCHEME In order to choose a favourite colour scheme, it is enough to simply take a look inside your closet. The clothes will provide you with the answer. If most of your clothes are tones of green, blue, violet, or grey, then consider choosing pillows of a cold colour scheme. There is no doubt that

the walls, floor, and furniture will also be in a similar style. However, keep in mind that if choosing the cold colour scheme, you are limiting your choices of the “perfect” pillow. Nonetheless, this option has its advantages. This is the simplest method of creating a harmonious interior. The colours are similar and work very well together.

WARM COLOUR SCHEME If you are unsure what colour scheme to choose, take a look outside your window. If you live in a warm environment, it is best to decorate your interior using the cold colour scheme in order to create a refreshing atmosphere. However, if you live in cold climates, you can easily “warm” your home with colours of the warm scheme: red, orange, yellow, and brown. Once again, this type of option also limits your choices.

NEUTRAL COLOUR SCHEME If you like all shades of white, grey, or brown, then you should worry about the design of the pillow rather than its colour. Monotone pillows will not attract attention although you can achieve an effect

16

ALL ABOUT HOME

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

if using the light and dark tones of neutral colours properly. You will have to play with the texture of the fabric.

NEUTRAL COLOUR SCHEME WITH AN ACCENT If you choose the neutral colour scheme, it is a good idea to add several bright pillows. Two colours will be enough; for example, green and orange. The interior will shine with new colour yet at the same time, you will not feel redundancy. If the furniture is of a neutral tone, you can bravely play around with the colour of the pillows.

MULTI-COLOURED PILLOWS If monotone options do not appeal to you, choose colourful pillows. However, be careful as you can easily make the interior overwhelming. It is best to choose one bright colour and make the rest of the pillows to be softer tones and less intensive. The amount of pillows should be reasonable; this will allow any corner of the room to transform into a wonderful comfort zone where you can escape and relax for an hour or two.

Need to Fabricate an Interesting Interior? USE FABRIC! As the principal designer of a bustling interior design firm, I am often asked questions about styles, trends, designs, and tastes; however, the most frequently asked is “Where do you start when designing a room”? My answer is always “with the fabric”. One of the best assets of my job is going to fabric showrooms; my favourite is Robert Allen. To me, these are the homes of inspirations and ideas. I like to spread out

different linens, velvets, and silks -- intricate and simple, costly and attainable -- and pull together a look that I know my clients will love. In my eyes, fabric is the key to an exquisite interior. I prefer to start with a patterned material with at least three to five colours; perhaps a chinoiserie inspired linen by Robert Allen or

Where durability is a concern I always use what is appropriate. Using linen for a family room sofa that children and dogs interact with on a daily basis is not the greatest idea. Instead, I opt for sturdy velvets or strong cottons. Speaking of sofas and fabric, I am a big fan of patterned fabrics. For much too long, sofas have been a little too safe and frankly just boring. A bold pattern is fun and unexpected; if chosen carefully, it will stand up to daily life and be so much more forgiving.

mixing fabrics, keep a common element in mind such as colour -- a motif or a natural reference. Remember to include materials with texture; smooth, rough, shaggy, and short will all play a part in the success of a room. I go by my own rule: “if I like it alone, it will work well together”. Fabrics do not necessarily all have to be super strong. In fact, I choose subdued colours and patterns if my clients are interested in a quieter space. I always keep in mind the functionality of the room and most importantly my client’s needs. A bedroom may inspire softer fabrics that will enable fulfilled rest whereas the family room could be more playful and light-hearted.

When I am asked how to create a beautiful room I say “start with fabric”. It is the foundation from which I build ideas and create the look my clients want. I start with a key fabric and then add, keeping in mind appropriateness while balancing it with the boldness of confidence and the desire not to be boring. No doubt, the worst thing a room can be is boring!

be stored just about anywhere. The optimal storage spaces are above hangers, on the floor beneath benches, or in narrow and tall cupboards.

A lobby is not always large enough to contain a spacious closet. Does this mean that you can forget about comfort and order in this space? Definitely not! You can find a solution as long as you correctly use the available space; keep only what you need, not all of the unnecessary accessories that you may want. The article that often demands storage space and is a constant nuisance on the floor is shoes. We suggest that you create a designated area for wet and dirty shoes and a separate area for dry shoes. This can be small yet spacious furniture. For example, it can be a chest with drawers that open diagonally, a stand with several baskets, or even a small rod with hooks fastened onto the door frame in the case that space is very limited. If you use your imagination, you can transform a plain drawer for shoes into true artwork that will no doubt decorate the lobby. It is known that the first impression of the home occurs in the lobby so make sure to surprise your guests as soon as they enter your home! If you already have an organized area for your shoes, think about whether it is com-

Hangers are an integral attribute of any lobby. There are many different types of hangers that you can incorporate in your lobby. If you have enough space and the desire to “fundamentally organize your lobby, consider obtaining furniture that consists of various shelves for accessories, hangers, and a small cupboard that can function as a bench. If you want to maximally conserve space, make use of small devices such as a thin shelf with hooks. Furthermore, you can use hooks with an unusual shape and arrange them in a chaotic order on the wall. This will certainly make the interior lively.

fortable to put them on in that space. A small bench will never be worthless in this case, especially since the space beneath it can be used for storage purposes of shoes themselves, whether they are house slippers or heels.

Do not forget about purses, hats, or scarves! As a woman you will definitely not forget but as a man, try to impress your loved one! Although this may not be important to you, be a gentleman and make her happy by offering a small organizer or designated area as an addition to her collection of storage spaces.

Ensure that your lobby has several woven baskets or bins. They can be used to store various articles of clothing and accessories, thus visually enlarging the interior. Think about where you want to display these baskets. If you believe they will obstruct the view of the lobby, you can even store them under the ceiling on a special shelf. Since they are lightweight and mobile, they can

To conclude, the final advice for a small lobby is to make it bright, welcoming, and as visually spacious as possible. More than half of the objects that occupy the space near the entrance can be neatly stored in closets or baskets in designated areas in the lobby. I think you can agree that it is pleasant to return to a clean and cozy home.

The Price of Ancient Artwork Thousands of years ago, the development of hand-made rugs was becoming increasingly popular in Ancient Persia. Since those times, these artworks have never lost their value. In fact, it has only increased. In the past ten years, Persian rugs have had the tendency to become more expensive. Each year, these hand-made masterpieces made in a delicate eastern style become 10-15% more expensive. THE PRICE OF PERSIAN RUGS The value of this merchandise is decided upon primarily based on the fact that it is handmade. On the reverse side of the rug, you can see numerous tiny knots tied by skilled masters. The most expensive creations have up to a million and a half knots. It is not surprising that such merchandise is so expensive. In order to obtain such a rug, it is a good idea to consult a specialist in this area.

Every store offering rugs of high quality usually offer a certain amount of free services to their clients. Since the purchase is quite expensive, clients have the opportunity to diligently choose the artwork.

ANTIQUE EASTERN RUGS Fortunately, true masterpieces exist today – the artistic and antique eastern handmade rug. One of such silk antiques, more than 500 years old, was sold for approximately $700 per square inch. Amongst experts of antique artworks, the “Baroda Pearl Carpet” is very well known. The Indian emperor Boroda has ordered this rug for himself in the 18th century. Furthermore, it was used to decorate the tomb of the Prophet in Medina. The uniqueness of this concept is the fact that the entire rug is covered with precious

stones. With every purchase, the price only increases. The latest customer spent more than 5 million dollars. The price of the Persian rug depends on several factors: • firmness of the knots • quality of natural colours • material used • artistic style • size • age Usually, a large rug requires the skills of several workers simultaneously. There are entire departments in Iran, India, and Turkey that regularly produce new pieces of modern threading techniques. The eastern rugs are suitable for any interior, especially since the ornament of every rug is individual. Today, they are produced with the consideration of the modern customer’s demands.

Easy to care for. In order for leather furniture to not lose its aesthetic characteristics, it is sufficient to simply clear it of dust. Variety in the colour scheme. Today, you can order leather furniture of any colour. For example, a leather sofa with the design of an iguana or crocodile looks very unusual and stylish.

CONS Price. Good quality leather furniture is quite expensive. If your financial status is in good shape to support your plans, ensure the furniture is of good quality.

LEATHER FURNITURE: The Pros and Cons

Leather components in the interior automatically give a respectable status to the owner. For the creation of such an image, many people eagerly empty their wallets. However, is the leather creation worth the money that you have to spend on it? Is status the only reason of why people choose natural material for their furniture?

mer, it will be a nice way to cool off while in the winter, the leather will offer you all of its warmth. Durability. Despite stereotypes, leather furniture is much more durable than any other. For leather that underwent special treatment, covers are unnecessary. Due to the fact that leather furniture is practical and easy to care for, it is commonly found in offices. Moisture resistance. Leather furniture will absorb liquids, but not nearly as fast as fabric covers. Most importantly, act quickly and wipe up any spills.

Doubtful Naturalness. In order for the leather to maintain a good condition, it undergoes intensive chemical processing – tanning. With this processing, a poisonous chromium compound is released. These compounds enter the leather and remain there although the producers state that they are unable to enter the atmosphere and therefore pose no risks to the person. Synthetic dyes. The neutral colour scheme is harmonious with only three colours: black, beige, and brown. Natural dyes fade quite quickly; therefore, leather furniture is covered in strictly synthetic dyes which do not have the best effect on the person’s health. A leather couch will not be able to be covered with a blanket and if sleeping on it, the bed sheets will constantly slide off. For this reason, if you plan to have guests for a sleep over, consider obtaining transformable furniture. Leather furniture absorbs various smells. In fact, the furniture itself may not smell too pleasantly when new. Leather furniture, like any object, has its pros and cons. There is not a single element with only pros or cons. Therefore, the choice is ultimately yours.

PROS Status. There is no point of discussing this topic in depth but it is essential to list it as an advantage as no other furniture is able to create a note of luxury in the interior with such ease. Comfort. Leather is always pleasant to touch. Although the surface may initially seem cold, it will soon match the body temperature of its occupant. In the sum-

Call of the Wild

In any field of human activity, assuming a creative attitude, it is often desirable to find a zest which would convince you that indeed, this man and his house are extraordinary even in our time. Nowadays, it seems impossible to be able to surprise a sophisticated audience with new innovations in design. At the end of the 20th century, people have strengthened their attachment to nature. Growing tired of the never-ending struggle with the environment’s ecology, progressive individuals feel the need to make their own “eco-friendly” world in the walls of their house, clearing it from every kind of chemical and physical debris. Design created not by man but by nature itself is greatly appreciated by Ecostyle. Purely natural materials, a warm and comforting palette of the colours of the earth, sand, and bark, simple cozy furniture made of wood with intricate designs on the delicate wooden board, a rough linen textile, admirable uneven threads knitted into comforters – this is what an ecologically styled interior is composed of. People that live in such an interior inevitably become kinder

26

ALL ABOUT HOME

and calmer - they begin to see beauty in seemingly simple things as they notice the object’s closeness to humanity, and it’s romantic nature. Furthermore, an ecologically styled interior can teach one of sincerity; there are no materials that pretend to be something they are not. For example, plastic does not seek to resemble a stone, a veneer does not pretend to be a natural oak, and a drawer from the nearest store is not labelled as an antique. A television and computer are accepted in an interior with your grandmother’s carved chest as it has always been this way in nature; the past, present, and future exist in harmony with each other.

e-mail: aahtoronto@gmail.com

Houses built on the principle of Ecostyle are spacious and bright. In such interiors, there is little furniture, clothes, and household items hidden in niches and unsophisticated cabinets. This style leaves the homeowner plenty of room for creativity and the ability to saturate the house with a wide variety of objects. It essentially saturates the house instead of needlessly stuffing it. Nothing in the interior can be minor or insignificant. Every element - both decorative and constructive - is important in its own way, as long as it was chosen with love. At first glance it appears simple, but that illusion will soon dissipate. Everything in the house, from the teaspoon to the sofa, has a unanimous soul. Elegantly decorated fabrics fit perfectly with austere forms of furniture made of very light or dark wood. Even the sinks and bathtubs can be made of wood, complemented by shelves woven from everything that can be woven. The tables are decorated with wonderfully simple dishes of greenish glass and white clay, wicker fruit bowls and wooden salt shakers, napkins and tablecloths in a homespun lace, and cutwork elements. It is evident that they were hand-made. It is right here that the famous words of Coco Chanel shine truer than ever: “fashion changes, but style endures”, especially if the style is imposed by nature.
