michael schwarz Born in 1958. After graduating at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, he applied for the Masterclass of Peter Cook at the Staedelschule Frankfurt, which he finished in 1991. From 1991 to 2000 Michael was an associated partner in “Schwarz + Witthoeft architects” in Mannheim and Dresden and had his own practice from 2000 – 2004 with his wife, “Schwarz and Funke architects” in Heidelberg. In 2005 he started teaching as a visiting professor at the American University Sharjah (VAE). Since 2006 he is a full faculty member at the Ajman University of Science and Technology in Ajman and a visiting professor at the Iranian University in Dubai. Michael Schwarz runs the think tank “starwalls” since 2005. He lives and works in Dubai.
yves weinand Born in 1963. Yves Weinand studied Civil Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL after gaining a degree in architecture from the Institut Supérieur d’Architecture Saint-Luc in Liège. In 1998 he received his PhD in applied sciences from the RWTH Aachen. In 1996 the Bureau d’études Weinand was founded in Liège, Belgium. Since 2004 he is director of the Laboratory of Timber Construction at the EPFL Lausanne.
