Hello. My name is David Ewen and welcome to our opening edition of TAN

Magazine

(Today's Author News). I've been in the book publishingbiz since 1994. In 1998, more was done with the media. My first radio show was on WORC 1310 AM and WGFP 940 AM. That was the beginning of author interviews. I've been interviewing authors since 1998. More recently, I've moved to internet radio on Blog Talk Radio to fully utilize the saved pod cast and social networking on MySpace, Facebook, and TWitter. The shows familiar to some are Today's Author and Morning Coffee. As the Summer wraps up more shows will be aired and can be found on wurry-. blostalkladio. com/ewenprime

I'm

excited

magazine

to start a new venture

editing. It will allow

in

another

opportunity for authors to share their stories and their works. One of the things I love about interviewing authors is to hear their stories. The stories here are from chat sessions on Facebook. I invited authors to join me on a chat session so that they could share their story. I'm happy to share them with you.

In addition to Author interviews, other stories and special reports will be presented. It's great to explore what other people are doing in publishing. It's a changing industry and I love to watch to see what's new and want to share it with you. Thank you.

April 28, 2008 My sweet, kind, loving, handsome, compassionate husband was diagnosed with cancer. He had "Peritoneal Carcinoma." What that is.....it is like if you took a hand fuIl of salt and threw

it on the beach sand, how could you find the salt again? Well his salt is his cancer it is everywhere. He had stomach cancer 5 years ago and did chemo and radiation and made it through. But now it is all over his poor body, there is no saving and

operation,

the only thing they could was chemo and Gary

do

knows what that

is like and chose not to do it, besides

it

would have only "prolonged" his life a month or two and made him very very sick. So he choose Hospice and to die at home in peace with me, his wife, Jeannie and his daughter Emma. I have decided to stand by his decision and help him die. He has been given 3-6 months to live. Gary and I decided to tell the raw, truth about cancer and what it really does to a strong, 2006 &, 2007 NATIONAL TAE K$IAN DO GOLD MEDAL winner, and his family so we started a website that I blogged on each day. When Gary was feeling up to it he would speak and I would type for him, as he wanted to say some things to the world in his final days. This is what Gury wanted so I did it for him. When Gary was with us, I promised him that one day when I was strong enough, I would do my best to have his story published and shown to anyone who chose to read it. The thought of that brought tears to his eyes..... today is almost 6 months after Gary's death....and I am trying my hardest to live up to my promise. This is so hard for me to work on, read and relive but I will do it for my Prince Gary!!!!!! I love you so much Gury Forever!! !!!

The book "Prince Gary" is available online on vwrw. amazon.com.

In the Fall of 2008, I met Jeannie Miller-Poland as she attended my class at Holyoke Community College. I've been teaching book publishing for over five years. She wanted to publish a book about her husband, Gary Poland. As I tell all of my students, keep in touch as I like to ensure success to all of my students.

About six months later, I received the manuscript. In it I found Gary had worked for Comcast. Although having been employed at Comcast for 3 years, I never met the Comcast veteran of 25 years. I looked at Jeannie's web site, found some videos and saw my fellow co-workers who knew Gary for many years. Holyoke Community College, I take care of my students and at Comcast, we take care of each other. So, for Jeannie, my student, and Gury, a fellow Comcast family member,I chose to help more.

I

also believe that Jeannie and Gary have an important story to tell. Contained here is not a recollection, but rather daily updates with full real life emotions included.

I spoke with Jeannie on the phone and talked about how people have unfortunate emergencies in the family. This book shows the day-by-day jourrrey to the end and beyond. It was written this clear, crisp way rather than an after-the-fact foggy recollection. The exact detail of emotion and reality is recorded. Tears were streaming down my face as I edited the text. I

When Jeannie, my wife, and I met at a Bames and Noble to discuss the development of the book, we talked about her story and the story of others. The final message being "Love Longer, Hug Harder, Touch Softer, Talk Sweeter, and Forgive Faster." It is the message from Gary, Jeannie and Emma.

Now that the book was moving forward, what day is best to launch into the public? Jeannie and I thought Gary's Birthday would be a good day. So on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, and one year after the Comcast parade, the story of Gary, Jeannie, Emma, and family will be shared. So for you Gary, we remember you on your birthday. Happy

I'm what most folks would call an astrologer, but I'm in a pretfy unique niche. I'm an academic astrologer, and publish on the history of astronomy/astrology in religion and science...For instance, my most recent book, The Star of the Magi,,,

9:lOamCourtne}: That was devoted

to the Star of Bethlehem and the Persian astrology of the Magi. However, I also do some very contemporary astrology, particularly in sports. I was just featured on ESPN, doing commentary on my work and the upcoming NFL season.

9:llamDavid How have your readers responded to your work. 9:14amCqU:ltnqy Good question - I get all kinds of responses!!! For one thing, I do personal consultations (Readings, for lack of a better word) and many readers want to consult with me after reading my work. I'm in a fairly unique niche there as well, because I work strictly on a donation basis it's more like spiritual guidance - so my astrological services are available to anyone. So you can imagine, I get to know a lot my readers very well. Check it out: http :i/www.thestarofthemasi. com/freereadings.htm

&ulbglls&l9:lTamDavid Good morning Mary. Thank you for joining me. Tell us a little about your book.

9:l8am&!qrv I'm the author of a'tween fantasyltime travel series, "Cynthia's Affic." The books are about two best friends who find a magic trunk in Cynthia's Attic that lets them travel back in time, meet and have adventures with their ancestors.

9:l9amDavid That's a great story. How did you come up with the great and fun idea. 9:20ambtarv The series (4 books, so far) came about through a recurring dream that I'd had for over 20 years about a mysterious attic. Once I realized that the affic was in the home of my childhood friend, Cynthia, the dreams stopped and the writing began.

9:2lamDavid Tell us about the two best friends that are in the book.

9:23amftlgrx Cynthia and Gus (Augusta Lee) are as different as "bubble sun and broccoli" as I describe in the book. Cynthia is always neat, well-mannered and doesn't care much for outdoor activities. Gus is messy, has a very sharp wit and is a tomboy, through and though. But, they always have each others backs and have been best friends since birth.

9:24amDavid How can people learn more about your books? Where can you be found on the internet? 9:26am&{g:ry The books are published by Quake (Echelon Press Imprint) and can be found on the website, echelonpress.com and also on Amazon. They can be ordered through any bookstore. My website, www.marycunninghambooks.com has excerpts and all buy information. Of course, more info is on facebook, too! The 4th book in the series, "The Magician's Castle," will be pub. DEC 2009.

re,ffifuffiwffi# Authors share their books by talking on the radio. Broadcast radio is fantastic for local exposure or concentration in a particular geographic area. Internet radio shows are global and are saved as pod casts. The shows can be saved and distributed Authors and publishers use the radio as a way of conducting a virtual tour around the USA. It's simplicity allows for interviews to be done over the phone.

I remember my first show "Author Of The Week" eleven years ago on WORC 13 10 AM and WGFP 940 AM. It was an hour long show that started at 9AM before going into ABC News. Back in those days, who ever heard the show was the only audience. Those that missed it was a missed opportunity for the author to share their book. Today, I do a lot with Blog Talk Radio on the internet. My show, Today's Author has been around a long time and has even been included in the COS Radio Network. Another show Moming Coffee covers not only interviews, but specialty subjects in publishing as well.

ffieFsffi E-Book Revolution By David K. Ewen, M.Ed.

revolution? I'm not an expert and seem to be at the sidelines as I hear a I\4y only ebook is a very basic one that was on sale last holiday season for $115.00. The same model is sold at Ebookwise.com now owned bv Barnes and Noble. I read So what is the E-Book

liule about it. a Dan

Brown book that I had downloaded.

There are other fancier e-book readers. Amazon has the Kindle selling less than before at about $300 and Sony has their ebook reader too. Those seem to be the major competitors. Others like Apple are getting into the mix by providing an application for e-reading on their IPhone and I-Touch devices.

Is it a novelty that will soon go away? I think the new technology is here to stay, however won't replace the paper book we have all been accustom to. New technology tends to be an addition rather than a replacement. When television came along, radio didn't go away. It actually expanded so that we even have satellite radio and internet radio.

I believe the ebook will fit into our lives to satisfy convenience of a quick buy and a faster way to reference material while traveling or moving about in our busy lives. I also believe the paper book will continue to stay as that tangible media that will have a market for distribution. People seem to like the packaging a book offers. The nice cover and the soft pages for reading. Perhaps not everyone will favor the ebook? Again, I'm not sure what will happen. I'm still waiting fior the Price of ebooks to come down. I remember when lap tops were $2000. Now the smaller lap tops, called net-books are only $300. If the price of a lap top can come down, then so will e-book readers. More will be available to choose from and at that point, I'll decide on the best. It will be the one who satisfies an industry standard showing a lasting brand.

I am sort of a gadget person,

so

I too will

be one of the ones who continue on the E-Book

revolution.
