Mom was right–

Wash your hands!

Saratoga County Fair PROGRAM brought to you by

Turns out, Mom was, and is, always right.

The Saratoga County Fair, in order to provide a comfortable and safe environment, has additional hand sanitizer stations in primary areas at the fair to supplement bathroom sinks. Before eating the best fair food, please wash your hands. Petting of animals and contact with them are important parts of the agricultural experience at a fair, and we want to continue to provide the best experience to the fair public. E. coli 0157:H7, Salmonella, Campylobacter are animal-borne diseases which have been prominent in the news lately regarding fairs and petting zoos. Having farm and other animals available for interaction by our guests is what makes fairs different from amusement parks and festivals. Additionally we are requiring that, along with no smoking, all animal contact areas are “no eating” areas as well. The Fair, in cooperation with 4-H leaders, has established a Youth Ambassador group that will discuss proper handling of animals and stress proper hand washing after contact. They will have “walk around” hand washers who will offer a squirt of antibacterial lotion to fairgoers who wish to clean their hands. Gel stations are available in food areas as well as animal contact areas. This is just an extra method of assuring fair fun in the summer. Having a well-informed public is paramount to having a safe and happy time at the Saratoga County Fair.

National Grid Electric Live Line Demos National Grid is proud to be back at the 2014 Saratoga County Fair to talk to our customers and the public about the importance of safety. We are bringing back our exciting electric live line demonstrations, where trained line workers use an electric system model and tools to entertain and educate visitors on how to be safe around power lines this Summer. There will be multiple daily demonstrations to show how our electric network brings energy to communities, and provide important safety tips for anyone living or working near electric lines. National Grid is also bringing back the popular - and free photo booth, and staff will be on hand to provide fair-goers with giveaways, important life-saving information, and answer questions about the company and services.

Antiques & Antique Machinery Be sure to visit the displays in the Antiques building near the cattle barns. You will remember many items on display from the homes of your parents, grandparents and friends. Perhaps you have some undiscovered treasures in your own home. Last year, we were fortunate to have over 1200 items entered into over a thousand categories by residents of Saratoga County. There are household items, toys, tools, jewelry and many others too numerous to list. Ribbons are awarded to many of the entries and four special ribbons for items the judges deemed as their favorite on display. Antique Machinery has moved! It is now located near Gate 3, adjacent to the Conservation Department displays. There is another very interesting display of old time tools and machinery including a large variety of tractors, saws, engines and other items and a shingle maker creating shingles the old fashioned way, from a chunk of wood. www.saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

Double M Rodeo The Double M rodeo performing this year at the Saratoga County Fair are the same folks that put on the All American Rodeos of the past, the Double M Rodeo of Ballston Spa on Route 67, right behind the Double M Western Store. The majority of contestants are locals, with occasional cowboys and cowgirls coming from New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and New York. Rodeo also includes Bull riding, Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, Women & Youth Barrel Racing and Bareback Riding. There will be local folks coming out to support local riders. “Double M” stands for Martin & Martin, a family run outfit celebrating nearly 50 years in business. See them weekly on Friday and Saturday nights at the Double M Rodeo & Arena. Thursday and Friday in the National Grid Grandstand, also sponsored by Hits 95.9.

Demolition Derby

JM Productions

JM Productions, Inc. is a family entertainment industry specialist. They have been producing family entertainment from their office in Western New York for over 42 years. In 1963, W. Jay Milligan Sr. was asked to put on a demolition derby at the Erie County Fair in his hometown of Hamburg, NY (which is just south of Buffalo). He was then asked to produce demos at other fairs in the area. The success at these fairs brought about the incorporation of JM Productions. JM Productions, Inc. now produces over 60 motor sport events yearly. Events include “World’s Largest Demolition Derby®,” “Championship Figure 8 Racing®” and their patented “Stock Car Football®”. They have climbed the ladder to success to become the premier automotive events producer in the northeastern United States at county and state fairs. Jay Senior had a great career in the auto racing business prior to incorporating himself. He owned his own service station, raced stock cars, served in the Korean War, held the Race Director position at Lancaster Speedway, assisted in the production of major league auto racing from NASCAR to Indy by advising the announcers (Bill Flemming, Keith Jackson, Jim McKay and Al Michaels) what was about to happen during races. Come see the Demolition Derby Thursday, July 24 and Sunday, July 27 in the National Grid Grandstand, also sponsored by Hits 95.9.

NYTPA Event

Friday in the

Grandstand The NYTPA event on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga County Fair features Super Stock Tractors and 2-Wheel Drive Trucks.

The Two-Wheel Drive class is considered the funny cars of pulling. These wheel standers run with fiberglass S-10 Chevy bodies, Dodge Dakotas, Ford Super duties and 23 Ford T-buckets. You name it and they are running it. They are producing upwards of 2,500 horsepower, from after market engines such as a Keith Black Hemi and the Fontana Arias to more common BBF and BBC engines from Fords and Chevys. They are allowed up to 575 cubic inches and can use superchargers or turbos burning methanol for fuel. These machines all use slipper clutches with a gearbox. They have Rockwell rear ends with planetary gears. The Dick Cepeck tires can produce wheel speeds up to 80 mph. The maximum weight of the vehicle is 6,200 pounds and are allowed 15 feet from center of rear axle to furthest point forward of the cab and weight box. The Super Stock tractor class allows four different types of tractors in the same class. Weights and regulations make this class very competitive. Super Stocks weigh 8,500 lbs and are limited to three turbo stages and 30.5 x 32 tires. The alcohol Super Stocks limit is 504 cid and weigh in at 7,500 lbs. Don’t miss this exciting event at the Saratoga County Fair!
