NMC was founded in 1989 with the support of the Holst Foundation. It remains an indispensable player in the arts and new music sectors, fulfilling a unique role for composers and the promotion of new music. It is our charitable status that enables us to record and promote the highest quality work without the overwhelming influence of sales potential, and to provide the crucial piece of the jigsaw that ensures investment in commissioning and premieres leads to an international listenership and – through our distinctive non-deletions policy – a permanent archive of new British music for the nation. NMC relies on public funding and the support of trusts and foundations, our generous donors and Friends, and collaborating partners.
