LABOUR NEWS JOHN LYONS TD Dublin North West August 2011

PROBLEMS WITH OVERGROWN AREAS IN LANESBOROUGH AREAS TO BE CUT AND SPRAYED BY FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL Several residents in the area have been in touch with me recently regarding overgrown parts of the estate. I have seen for myself the problems regarding overgrown grass and weeds in many parts of Lanesborough. I have made representations to Fingal County on several occasions in recent weeks seeking to get this problem addressed and to get a regular schedule put in place for cutting grass and spraying weeds in the area.

Following further representations to the Council last week they have agreed to cut and spray overgrown verges in the estate on Lanesborough Rd around the park, and in areas along St. Margaret’s Rd opposite Charlestown. It is my hope these works will be carried out as soon as possible. Please contact me on the details above if I can report other maintenance issues or overgrown sites in the Lanesborough area to Fingal County Council directly.

PROBLEMS WITH OVERGROWN AREAS IN LANESBOROUGH AREAS NOT UNDER FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL’S CONTROL It has come to my attention that some of the overgrown areas have not yet been handed over to Fingal County Council by the developer. According to the County Council, this includes several areas of the park area that are very overgrown and full of weeds at present. I know many residents are concerned about these areas as it leads to further litter problems. I have written to Fingal County Council to request that they make further contact with the developer to have these areas properly maintained and cut regularly. I will also be writing to the developer to ensure they fulfil their responsibilities and look after areas under their control at the moment. I hope to clarify when these areas can be handed over to the Council so it is clearer on all sides who has responsibility for parts of Lanesborough and that it is properly maintained.

LITTER PROBLEMS IN PARTS OF LANESBOROUGH I have also contacted Fingal County Council regarding litter problems in parts of the estate. Residents of course play a part in keep the area outside their homes as clean as possible. Fingal County Council have said they will support Residents Associations and community groups who organise community clean-ups through the provision of bags and removal of any litter gathered. I am looking to organise a regular clean-up day in Lanesborough to help with this initiative. Please contact me on 01 618 3280 or john.lyons@oir.ie if you would like to be involved or contact the Fingal Operations Department directly on 01 8905000.
