He llo Silicon Valley, Helium is like a baby. Every time it speaks, grows an inch or rolls over and poops in its pants, I have to celebrate and jot the event down in a little Helium Zine. We’ve just completed our third month of operations and I’m proud to announce that we’ve met every goal we set for ourselves. Every day I wake up and think, “With the possible exception of the equator, everything has to be begin somewhere.” It’s my reminder that all of the giants that we look up to -- from the editors of Harper’s Bazaar in New York to the Charity Fashion Show directors at Stanford -- all started with initiative. Starting a magazine is nothing new to me, but the secret weapon that has made Helium so successful is our devotion to community. Helium is more than a printed magazine or a fashion show; Helium is a network of people investing their talents in a product that benefits everyone. We’ve grown with such speed that I often think we’re like one of those flash mobs on Youtube (minus the flash disappearance). The Atomic Fashion Show is just the beginning for Helium. Check out a preview of our next fashion show, the Elemental Fashion Show, on page 15. The December 4th show will launch Helium’s first official issue, and will be the birth of a new life in Silicon Valley. Matthew Mountford Helium Magazine editor in chief
