Extra (weekend/after hours) Opportunities for emergency and weekend operating lists exist. Put name and mobile number on white board in theatre lounge Tips  

  

Two Y4 Flinders students will also be attached to Gen Surg. They are usually more experience but do the same activities as Adelaide students on rotation nd There are fewer opportunities to assist in Gen Surg unless the Reg is absent or a 2 assistant is needed. Some opportunities to assist O&G, Ortho or other specialties may be available if other students are not allocated to them Y3 rural Flinders students occasionally come in to hospital, they get preference for theatre opportunities when present Learn the names of doctors and then theatre staff as a priority as theatre staff are very friendly & helpful people Take opportunities to assist the junior doctors on the ward wherever possible: Take bloods, put in IV cannulas, take admission histories, write ward round notes, draft referrals, draft D/C summaries, make calls to local GPs or Adelaide hospitals

Key Topics   

General Surgery Orthopaedics Rural medicine

Resources 

Feel free to contact previous students, Andrew Vanlint, Brydie Purbrick & Bethany Kloeden
