99 NoveNove is a new baby born in June ’08 with the first board off the @production CUSTOM-line just three months later. It works and surfers like it! It’s a brand, a logo, an expression based purely on constructing and developing ideas and extreme watersoprts toy’s such as boards and wear for Windsurf, Kitesurf, Surf and SUP. A Logo that is derived from the numeric 99, an effigy which recalls a historic sailing number marking an important chapter in the evolution of Windsurf: “I-99”. 99-NoveNove is an Italian brand that bonds the image, stile and (extensive) experience of two professionals of the sport, qualities matured over years spent competing (at the highest levels) and now transformed into ideas and products for a highly technical and ever demanding market. Here is born a product “customized” to the last detail, unique and exclusive just as is a “hand tailored suit”, heart made, developed and designed in Italy. A Minimal look yet sophisticated, elegant but aggressive, trendy and retro, that marries the slogan of our promotion campaign: “TAILOR-MADE IN TUSCANY”;… made to measure.

SURFILLUSTRATED

Cesare Cantagalli I-99. Born in 1968 in Faenza, is undoubtedly an icon of International Windsurfing and indeed the most famous Italian athlete of this discipline. Following the release of John Milius’s 1978 film ‘Big Wednesday’, the entire Cantagalli family were captivated by this new sport and inspired by the film, they all took to their boards. Itt was soon clear that Cesare, at just 9 years old, had a natural talent for windsurfing, and he took up the sport with an enthusiasm and passion that has carried him forward and helped him to achieve international success. Almost immediately he was top of the national podium in all windsurf categories for three successive seasons. At just 14 Cesare moved to Hawaii, the Mecca of windsurfing that is often considered to be an open air gym for training the world’s greatest champions. It is here that Cesare would be become just that.

WEMAKEWINDSURFINGHISTORY

In 1986, Cesare, endowed with his “classic Italian” inspiration and creative impulse, invented a completely new and truly spectacular acrobatic move that would mark him as a true windsurfing legend; the first ever forward rotation in the history of this soprt. It was initially called the “Killer Loop” but later, in virtue of its origin, it was aptly coined “Cheeseroll” from “Cesare Roll”. This manoeuvre inspired a new vein of moves, brought impetus and spectacularity into this sport and, of course, catapulted Cesare towards inventing radical new aerial moves.Cesare then spent over 10 years traveling extensively on the world circuit which became his classroom and his school of life enabling him to compete and to gain a place among the world’s top five windsurfers. This gave him the opportunity to break waves with some of the most famous athletes in history and victories around the world which gained him 4th place overall “Wave” in 1989 and 1990.

CESARECANTAGALLII-99

‘GLOB-O-TOUR’ was established in 1994 to harness this zealous spirit. Inspired by nothing other than wind, water and nature, and drawing upon Cesare’s natural talent, eight years of experience and acute eye for the needs of others (as well as plenty of adrenalin!), the media project was born. So intent on getting it right, Cesare personally directs and produces the videos and oversees all related publications with the media. Unable to resist the challenge of ‘KiteSurf’, what began as a spin-off discipline has also become a part of Cesare’s life. Unsurprisingly, Cesare’s array of talents and ambitious, motivated character are admired by many in the windsurfing world. Today, Cesare has joined forces with his friend shaper Gianni Valdambrini and realised his dream by launching his very own brand ‘99 NoveNove, inspired by Cesare’s sail number I-99.

GIANNIVALDAMBRINI

Florence 07/07/1964 - An ambition and passion for art, complemented by a solid technical background and curiosity for anything and everything that’s new on the scene, have made Gianni Valdambrini one of the very best Shaper’s around. An excellent skier since a tender age, he competed at home and abroad with the likes of Alberto Tomba and other members of the world’s skiing elite. However, commitment to his studies and his family’s textile business prematurely interrupted his ascension to the slopes. Instead he became a skiing instructor whilst still competing at a national level and was crowned Italian Masters Champion in 2001. At 17 he discovered the world of windsurf, which he could fit in around his commitments during the skiing season. But it was his technical fascination for the rigs, more than his love for the sport, that convinced him to start building his very own custom boards in a workshop next to the family’s textile company in 1982.

WEMAKEBOARDS

Gianni was quick to learn the secrets of building a world class board for the most demanding of athletes, surf and windsurf alike. Hawaii became one of his regular haunts and it was here in 1988 that Cesare and Gianni met. They quickly built up a friendship based on their mutual respect for each other, and later decided to combine their talents in a new project: producing a range of custom boards for Cesare’s renowned ‘GLOB-O-TOUR’.This union created many new opportunities for collaboration with leading surf companies between 1999 and 2008, which meant the partners could produce novel board shapes, a number of which have received international accolades. In 2001 Gianni started designing the first Kite Boards on the market, and soon he was shaping the boards for the whole surf and wind range (windsurf, surf and kitesurf). 2006 saw Gianni introduce his new toy into the workshop: the first CAD-CAM in Italy for designing, shaping and producing surf-boards and accessories with a numerically controlled CNC milling machine.
