August saw Jamaica celebrate its fifty years of independence, and to mark the occasion, and pay homage to the island’s continuing influence on modern music, our resident tech expert takes a look at perhaps the most important movement of the Jamaican sound – dub.

Dub as a genre is inseparable from the technology used to create it. Unlike reggae artists, who use traditional instruments, dub artists use a wide variety of studio-based technologies to create their records.
